Class Organization

Each student is assigned a letter of the alphabet at the beginning of the year.  In the center of the gym the letters are stenciled on the floor to form a circle.  As the students enter the gym they are to go to their assigned letter and wait for further instruction.
Methods & Procedures

Today we are starting our unit on gymnastics and there are a lot of things we need to learn before we can start rolling and using equipment.  Today we are going to practice moving in your own space.  The first activity we will do is working on your personal space.  Who can tell me what personal space is?
answers include
all the space that the body or its parts can reach without traveling away from your starting spot.
What is "your body and its parts"?
answers include
arms, legs, hands, head, etc..
So what if I move my knee is that a part?
Yes. Okay good.
Well when I am standing in my self-space can I run over and tell Joey what happened last night at dinner?
No. Okay I think we are ready to start.
Everyone stand up and put your arms out to your side.  If you can touch someone else you are too close to them and you need to move.
