1. Launch the decoder.
2. Add a task to the decoder. You can add a task either by dragging an mpeg2 file to the decoder window or by choosing 'Add to Decoder...' from the File menu.
3. Adjust the compression settings for the task. You can change the quicktime compression settings with the 'Settings...' button. If you plan to recompress the video again as an mpeg1 file (for a VCD, for instance) try using one of the MJPEG compressors at 75% quality. If you want quicktime output, Sorenson, On2 VP3 and (soon) 3ivx will give you the best compression.
4. Adjust the size. You may to change the physical size of the final movie. The custom size dialog will allow you to select full size, half size or a custom size. Choosing half size will result in the fastest decoding but also the lowest quality. The custom size options may provide what you need if you plan on creating a VCD - try using the add margins options to add letterboxing or the crop option to remove letterboxing.
5. Click start.
6. Wait.
Because this decoder is unfinished, the error messages are not always readily understandable. If something does go wrong, you should see an alert with some text, a button titled 'Exit' and a button titled 'Continue'. Each button does what you would expect. These errors are often not fatal, however it is likely that something has become corrupt and may cause problems again somewhere down the line.
