This young Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel was photographed at the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest Visitor Center. Elevation there is 10,020 feet and it only receives 5-8 inches of precipitation each year. Most of that is snow. Yet these little ground squirrels scurry around finding food and popping into the visitor center much to the dismay of the attending rangers and delight of visiting tourists. These peppy little guys seem to enjoy life amongst these thousand year-old trees. We should take joy in our life too, even when we feel the circumstances could be better, it is so easy to overlook all that we have to be thankful for. Like the little bit of rain we had, the first since I arrived here. Roofs over our heads, food in our stomachs and the good Lord guiding our way.

Shooting Data: Canon 10D, 100-400mm, 1.4x, 1/1500sec., f/8
