Great Basin Bristlecone Pines live for thousands of years. This tree may have been three or four thousand years old before it died. They have some unique adaptations to survive on poor soil and very little rain. One of them is to actually sacrifice a part of the tree in order to keep another part alive. On some of these old Bristlcones only a narrow strip of bark is keeping the tree alive. I wonder how they know to do that? When I gaze upon these ancient trees they remind me of how Christ sacrificed himself for us, when we don't deserve it one bit. He also calls upon us to make sacrifices. What are you willing to give up in order to do God's will?

Shooting Data: Canon Rebel XT, 17-85mm, 1/200sec., f/11
