| In 1951, North Electric was purchased by the L.M. Erricson Company of Sweden. Shortly thereafter, the engineers in Galion began to work on a U.S. version of Erricson's ARF By-path Crossbar System. |

| North originally focused on magneto sets and switchboards, but after moving the factory to Galion, Ohio, he began working on his on Automatic Telephone System. Working with Ernest Faller, North developed the "self acting telephone system, but his most significant partnership was when Edward E. Clement joined the group and together they produced the semi-automatic system called "Automanual". The first system went into service in Ashtubula, OH in 1908. This system, using relays and switches developed by North and automated some manual operator functions. Automanual was the forerunner of the North Electric CX family of All-Relay telephone exchanges! CX systems for PBX and Central Office applications from 10 lines to thousands of lines were in continuous production up through the late 50's. During WWII reliable CX exchanges provided telephone communications on our Navy Ships at sea! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
