Guardian Forces
A Guardian Force, also known as a GF, is an independent energy force. By combining it with para-magic, it is possible to control tremendous amounts of energy. Memory loss is a possible side-effect, but this has not been proven as of yet.
GFs have their own vital statistics and abilities. By junctioning a GF, a person may "borrow" some of that GF's abilities. GFs grow by gaining experience through battle. They learn abilities by gaining AP (ability points) from a battle. GFs become compatible with certain people, and by means of certain tactics, over time.
Below is a list of the Guardian Forces and information about them from Final Fantasy VIII.
Quezacotl
Pandemona
Pandemona is a wind-elemental GF. She is drawn from Fujin during the battle at Balamb Hotel. Pandemona's Speed-Junction ability comes in handy for making a character super-fast.
The name of Pandemona's attack is Tornado Zone.
Quezacotl is a thunder-elemental GF. He is found at the beginning of the game by accessing Squall's computer terminal. Quezacotl's thunder attacks cause severe damage to machinary and other robotic enemies.
The name of his attack is Thunder Storm.
Cerberus
Shiva
Cerberus is another GF that does not do any damage to the enemy. He casts Double and Triple on the entire party. You must challenge him in Galbadia Garden before going to fight Seifer.
The name of Cerberus's attack is Counter Rockets.
Shiva is an ice-elemental GF. She is also found at Squall's terminal. Shiva's ice attacks cause major damage to fire-based enemies.
The name of Shiva's attack is Diamond Dust.
Ifrit
Alexander
Ifrit is a fire-elemental GF. He joins Squall's party after Squall defeats him in the Fire Cavern. Squall must do this as a pre-requisite for going on the SeeD canadite mission to Dollet. Ifrit's fire attacks char enemies, causing massive damage to ice-based enemies.
The name of Ifrit's attack is Hell Fire.
Alexander is a Holy-elemental based GF. His attacks are most effective against the undead or against Zombied creatures. His Med-Lvl Up ability also comes in handy. You must draw Alexander from Edea in the fight with Galbadia Garden.
The name of Alexander's attack is Holy Judgement.
Siren
Doomtrain
Siren does not have an elemental attack. Rather, she casts Silence on the enemy. She can be drawn from Elvoret on top of the Dollet Communications Tower.
The name of her attack is Silent Voice.
Doomtrain is brought into existence by using 6 Steel Pipes, 6 Remedy+, 6 Malboro Tentacles, and the Solomon Ring found at Tear's Point. No fighting is necessary, Doomtrain will join up right away. Doomtrain's poison based attack causes almost every status effect in the book to the enemy.
The name of Doomtrain's attack is Runaway Train.
Brothers
The Brothers use an earth-elemental based attack. They join Squall's party after Sacred and Minotaur(the Brothers)are defeated in the Tomb of the Unknown King. Their attack is worthless against flying creatures.
The name of their attack is Brotherly Love.
Bahamut
Once you have obtained the Ragnarok and have found the Deep Sea Research Center, you can fight, defeat, and obtain the King of GF, Bahamut.
Bahamut's non-elemental attacks are deadly against any enemy.
The name of Bahamut's attack is Mega Flare.
Diablos
Diablos's non-elemental attack may not seem like much at first, but he quickly gains strength. Talk to Headmaster Cid before leaving to go to Timber, and he will give you a Magical Lamp. Use this to go to Diablos's dimenision to defeat him. Diablos's Mug ability comes in useful for nabbing rare items and such. Also, his attack quickly becomes one of the most lethal in the game.
The name of Diablos's attack is Dark Messenger.
Jumbo Cactuar
You obtain Jumbo Cactuar by defeating it on Cactuar Island. Jumbo Cactuar's non-elemental attack causes 1,000 points of unblockable damage for every 10 levels of his experience.
The name of Jumbo Cactuar's attack is 1,000 Needles.
Tonberry King
Carbuncle
After fighting and defeating 18-22 Tonberries at the Centra Ruins, the Tonberry King will appear. If you defeat him, he will join your party. Tonberry is a close second in cuteness to Carbuncle. His non-elemental attack is effective against any enemy.
The name of Tonberry King's attack is Chef's Knife.
By far, the cutest GF in the game! Carbuncle is drawn from the Iguions that are attacking Rinoa. He causes no damage to the enemy. Rather, Carbuncle casts Reflect on the entire party. This use quickly becomes obsolete as enemies begin using magic that cannot be Reflected.
The name of Carbuncle's attack is Ruby Light.
Eden
If Bahamut is the King of GF, then Eden is his Queen. She is ABSOLUTELY the MOST POWERFUL GF in the game! Her non-elemental attack will destroy any non-Boss creature, and even some Bosses! She is drawn from Ultima Weapon on the excavation site of the Deep Sea Research Center.
The name of Eden's attack is Eternal Breath.
Leviathan
Leviathan is drawn from Master NORG in the fight over Balamb Garden. Leviathan's water attack is the strongest water elemental attack in the game.
The name of his attack is Tsunami.
