COWBOY

The first thing you notice about him is
his confidence when entering a room
Next his extraordinary way to move
and the bold look in his blue eyes
He neglects no lady at a party,
but he's not in desperate need for romance
Ask him to dance and he'll excuse himself
to catch up with all the regular men
He hasn't been known to give up control
or break his self-imposed isolation
Some say he is a cold and bitter man,
because he complies to just his own rules
He never ceases to amaze women
while their husbands fear, hate or envy him
But when he is riding high on his horse,
he can feel sullen, a stab in his heart
He often gets caught in a thunderstorm

COWBOY II

That man I have told you about before
won a ribbon at a contest last month
The first prize proved again his mass appeal,
judges admire his brilliant technique
His statement afterwards sounded twisted,
he praised the horse's rising condition
and how pressure to succeed made him feel bliss
It almost sounded like a slight insult
to those who always expect his triumph
Staring at all the ribbons on his wall
there sometimes creeps up a longing in him,
to ache no more, to confide in someone
other than the pale moon in a black sky
But he is too proud of a man to beg
