The Large Day, continued...
Next is Dunluce castle, a ruin, where if you sit for a while, you can almost hear the echoes of the people who lived here. Apparently the new bride of the castle's lord hated it here. According to our guide, the thing she hated most was the never-ending sound of the sea. We look at each other: Can you imagine?? It didn't help that part of the castle collapsed into the sea during a big dinner, dumping the kitchen & the cooks with it. |

An environment agency photographer arrives to join us, invited by Bernard, & takes a few pictures. He's got a digital lens as long as my camera bag, but, upon introduction, looks at my old Pentax & says, "Well, someone here has a decent camera."
I like it! I'm moving here...!! |

Farther along, we stop at Giant's Causeway. It's a MUCH nicer day, & in spite of a mild gale (there's some good-natured & very opinionated debate about how many knots it is) it's sunny, & the light is better. I do, however, nearly get blown off the rocks. Probably would have if not for the camera bag as anchor! |

Finally, we have to turn back. The sun is getting low, the light is warm, & the hills are even more gorgeous. As we come back through Carrickfergus, twilight is falling. The Large Day is drawing to a close. There are crowds of people along the shore, & we spot the last batch of fireworks in the distance over the lough. Back in the parking lot, goodbyes are said.
As fellow passenger Jim said the other day, "It was just the tour we'd have asked for." |
