In 1999, we "aquired" Bubba, a one and a half year old basset from one of my father's co-workers Michael Paisley. He was previously a military dog, moving from family to family, until he came to Michael and Chrissy, who took him in because they had "Ears", an English Basset. When Chrissy found out she was going to have a baby, they decided two bassets were too many for their little house, so we took Bubba in. Mom loved him because Bubba is special; he is a long-haired basset. Recently, I found that being long-haired is probably what caused poor Bubba to be shuttled from one home to another. See, his first owners bought him to show and AKC rules disqualify any long haired tendencies.
Tessa B. and Tubby are Bubba and Ear's puppies. They clearly are Mama's kids, with their short cinnamon colored coats. Tessa B. is a rough-houser, beating up the boys and ruling the roost. Tubby is the comic, loving any and all attention.
On Christmas Day, 2001, Tessa had puppies, of which only Custard lived. Custard definitely takes after Tessa, playing and going on like she does.
The "odd one" is Spike, a german shepard/border collie mix. He's the bassets' protector and official "uncle".
