| Hi, I'm Spike. I am a Shepard/Collie mix and it's my job to keep the bassets in line. And I take my job very seriously. I don't let *anybody* near my family. My favorite things to do besides herd Bubba and Tubby around all day are playing with my frisbee and my ball. Sometimes I play with my wood block, too. But none of my toys are quite as fun as My Rock. I looooooooove my rock. I dug it up three years ago at my first home in North Carolina; when we moved to a new home there, I got to bring my rock. Then when we moved to Illinois, of course, we brought my rock. I love to jump and file my nails on it. But I never let anyone else near it. That's 'cause it's *mine*. All Mine. Since I love my bassets and worry about their health, there are some links on this page to my favorite sites on various problems that could jeopardize a basset's health. Hip dysplasia is fairly common and painful if not treated. I recommend the microchip identification to anyone with a dog because if your dog is lost or hurt, a vet can scan for the chip and notify you right away. Heartworms are worrisome, too, and completely preventable. Talk to your vet and you will keep your basset just as healthy as mine. |
