Above: A table full of fresh orchids, available EVERYDAY here in Bangkok. Right: "Garlands" of marigolds being sold next to a Hindu temple. Far right: Boys playing around with a large umbrella at a local cafe.
Simon and I went to visit my aunt Lek and caught up with everyone at the office for lunch. We also went back the next day for dinner and had a nice evening catching up.
Going home: A glimpse of the new Suvarnabhumi airport (pronounced: "Su-wan-na-poom" and don't let anyone who wants to show off thinking they know how to pronounce foreign words tell you otherwise!)

Another walk along Silom Road
We went to see a spectacular stage show called Siam Niramit. The whole place has a miniature village made up of traditional houses from the various regions showcasing arts and craft and village life. Simon got to see a real elephant up close. Next to that photo is the traditional way of producing silk from silkworms.
Left: On the way to the show. A view of part of Bangkok's skyline.
Right: At the main entrance to the Siam Niramit Show.
We came back to the hotel and decided to just relax and had a drink (or two) and listen to the piano playing in the foyer until late afternoon. Then we got properly attired to see "KHON" at The National Theatre (it was the first air conditioned building in Thailand)
Above right: A poster in the theatre foyer. Right: A billboard outside the theatre explaining the story and advertising the show.
("KHON") is a form of theatrical dance usually performed to the epic Ramakien story. A special production is being staged this year to celebrate 60th anniversary of the King's ascension to the throne.
It is only a month old and there were still many teething problems, like this very long queue at check in. The closest screen you can see is number10 but this queue is going to number 17!! The airport boasted state of the art design and technology and that it will be so simple for passengers to check in with minimal waiting time....YEAH... we waited so long.... by the time we checked in it was less than half an hour before our scheduled departure. Our flight was in fact two hours late for departure. But we had a good flight and was home safe and sound. Hmmm.... I am starting to think about next year already.
