History

The PSPCA was organized on December 13. 1904, through the initiative of Ms. Anna L. Ide, daughter of former Governor-General Ide, with the support of high government officials.

Shortly after its organization, the Philippine Commission incorporated the SPCA under Act No. 1285 on January 19, 1905. Ms. Ide was elected as the first president of the organization.

In 1939, Dra. Paz Mendoza-Guanzon was the first Filipino elected to the SPCA presidency. She was succeeded by Mrs. Cecilia San Agustin who served for more than 13 years.

1960 was the year an all-Filipino Board of Directors was elected with Dr. Vivencio Taca as president. Under his administration, a more progressive program of activities was implemented.

Today, the Society is headed by Mr. Edgardo C. Aldaba with an energetic board whose main concern is to create, through information and education, a nationwide acceptance of kindness and consideration towards all animals.
