Fun Facts about the Eagles
Fun Facts about the Jaguars
-When the NFL was expanding in 1995, Jacksonville was considered a very unlikely candidate for the 30th team. St. Louis was considered to be the front runner and there were even shirts printed up for the team that St Louis wanted to be called, "The Stallions". However, St. Louis was stunned when Jacksonville won.
-In their second season in the NFL, the Jaguars stunned everyone by going 9-7 and winning two playoff games against the Buffalo Bills and the Denver Broncos before losing in the AFC Championship game.
-The Jaguars defeated the Miami Dophins 62-7 in the 2000 divisional playoffs in what would be Dan Marino's last game. The 55 point margin was the second biggest in NFL playoff history and Fred Taylor's 90 yard run is the longest ever in playoff history.
-Despite their success, the Jaguars are one of three teams to have never appeared in the Super Bowl. The other two being New Orleans and Houston.
-Former Eagles owner and GM Bert Bell is largely credited with the idea of an annual college draft in the NFL with the teams with the worst record getting first pick in the draft.
-In 1985 after head coach Marion Campbell quit, Eagles Defensive Coordinator Fred Bruney served as head coach for the last week of the season. The Eagles put up 37 points, which was the most points they had scored in 4 years. Regardless, Bruney would be replaced by Buddy Ryan by 1986.
-Former Eagles QB Ron Jaworski received a medal from Pope John Paul II when he visited Philadelphia in 1979 because of his Polish ancestry.
-Jaworski is also known for his post NFL career as well. Besides being part owner of the Philadelphia Soul arena football league team, he also owns the Holiday Inn near the Sports Complexes and is an analyst for ESPN.
