Fun Facts about the Colts
Fun Facts about the Eagles
-The Colts are the first team in NFL history to start two straight seasons at 9-0
-On July 13, 1972, the Colts were located in Baltimore. Then owner Carroll Rosenbloom actually traded franchises with Robert Irsay, who owned the Los Angeles Rams, thought he players would stay in their respective cities. Irsay would eventually move the team to Indianapolis in 1984.
-In 1983, the Colts drafted QB John Elway 1st overall only to have him refuse to play for their team and threaten to play baseball instead. The Colts traded him to Denver, and to make matters worse the QB they had taken in the first round the year before had been suspended. The Colts finished at a surprising 7-9.
-Irsay's moving the team to Indianapolis was not without lots of controversy. Many Colts alumni including star QB Johnny Unitas refused to acknowledge the Colts team and instead embraced the Baltimore Ravens when they came to town in 1996. Following his death in 2002, the Colts were told by the NFL they were not allowed to honor Unitas' death because of his notorious anger at the team for moving out of Baltimore.
-On December 10, 1989 in a game dubbed the Bounty Bowl, future Eagles mayor and current governor of Pennsylvania Ed Rendell was criticized for betting a reporter that he could get a snowball to reach the field.
-During that same game, a snowball is said to have hit Dallas Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson in the back of the head yet remarkably, his hair style remained in tact!
-Eagles RB Correll Buckhalter currently has the Eagles record for yards per carry for a rookie at 4.5. This broke the record set by Keith Byars.
-Eagles DT Mike Patterson had the nickname of "Baby Sapp" while at USC because according to head coach Pete Carroll his play reminded him of NFL player Warren Sapp.
-FB Thomas Tapeh was originially from the country of Liberia until he moved to St. Paul, MN when he was 9.
-WR Donte Stallworth is sometimes referred to as the fastest man in the NFL. Rumor has it that at the scouting combine in 2002, Stallworth ran a 4.21 second 40 yard sprint.
-After being suspended at USC in 2004, OT Winston Justice spent his time helping people in Phoenix area register to vote.
