| -The team was originally known as the Houston Oilers. In 1997, the team moved out of Houston to Tennessee, keeping the nickname "Oilers". They officially changed their name to "Titans" in 1999. -Titans owner Bud Adams has been the only owner that the Oilers/Titan franchise has ever seen. Adams still lives in Houston and made a vast fortune in the petrolium business. -In their magical 1999 season (which culminated in an even weirder Super Bowl loss), the Titans were involved in what was dubbed "The Music City Miracle". With the Titans behind on a last second kick off against the Buffalo Bills in the wild card game, the Titans would return the ball 75 yards thanks to several laterals in a very controversal and exciting game. -The 1996 season was on all accounts a disaster for the Houston team. The team went 8-8 and fan attendence dropped to under 20,000 for the game. According to one account, it was so quiet you could hear all the action on the field. The city of Houston would let Adams out of the lease with the city a year early as a result. |
