| Apple Diety: Venus, Appollo, Hera, Athena, Aphrodite, Diana Powers: Love, Healing, Garden magick Magical Uses: On Samhain, apples are used to symbolize those that have crossed over (or died). It is their food. Bobbing for apples has it's root in this Feast of the Dead. Cutting an apple through the center often shows a Pentacle of seeds (try it, you'll see what I mean). They are used in many love spells or to stop evil people from working their magic on you. Medicainal uses: Who hasn't heard: An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Apples are a good source of fiber. Apple cider vinegar is good for dieter since it helps clean out you system and helps curve sweets cravings. Belladonna AKA: Witches Button, Deadly Nightshade Diety: Hecate, Circe Magical uses: Astral Projection, protection from harm Caution: THIS PLANT IS POISONOUS. Some people use the berries to help them sleep, but this is very dangerous. Belladonna is a lovely plant, but don't keep it in your home if you have young children or pets. The berries are shiny and your child may eat them. Betony Powers: PRotection, Purification, Love Magical Uses: Add to any protection spell or infusion. If you ahve nightmares, consider adding this to a dream pillow to keep you safe in your sleep. Scattering betony through your home or garden forms a wall through which evil cannot pass. Blood root Powers: Love, Protection Magical uses: Carry this root to draw love (but not a from a specific person). use to protect your home. Use the powder form mixed with water in spells that sugest blood. Caution: If using the powder form of this root, put tissue in our nose. It will irritate the mucous membranes in your nose and cause serious nose bleeds. Chamomile Powers: Money, Sleep, Love, Purification Magical uses: Put in a sleep sachet to hang near your bed to promote a calm sleep. Put ina purifcation bath before a spell or infuse to clear your mind and help stress melt away. Medicinal uses: Insomnia and anorexia (lack of appetite. This does not help with the psychological problems surrounding anorexia nervosa). Cinnamon Diety: Venus, Aphrodite Powers: Spirituality, Sucess, Power, Healing Magical Uses: This is a fire herb, so add it to any spell you need fast result in. Many kitchen witches (like me) use this in cooking alot to keep people sucessful and healthy. Dandelion Deity: Hecate Magical Uses: Blow a dandelion puff to make a wish or to send a message to a loved one through the wind. Drinking the tea will help with psychic powers. Medicinal Used: A great, mild diuretic. If you're retaining water, brew up a cup of this and enjoy. The root is also good to cleanse the liver and to help with eczema and other skin rashes. Garlic Powers: Protection, Healing, Anti-theft, Exorcism Magical Uses: Protect your home from evil spirits by hanging a cord of garlic in your kitchen or by a door. It's best not to add these to food as they hold negative energy. Garlic is always used to protect people, especially sailors and children. Again, it is used by kitchen witches alot. Medicinal Uses: Garlic is great for lowering cholecterol and helping circluation, especially when used with cyanne peppers. Don't use deodorized garlic, since the most effective part of garlic is the part that makes it stink. Ginger Powers: Love, Money, Luck, Success Magical Uses: Another Fire herb that can be used to "heat up" your spells. Sprinkle some in a wallet or purse to attract money, or use in a spell for the same purpose. Medicinal Uses: Upset tummies love ginger. Use for nausea, especially morning sickness. | I am starting by listed herbs I commonly use in spells. Please, if you do cast a spell, remember the Wiccan Rede and use common sense. I did not include herbs that are used soley for love, since I do not perform any kind of love magick. It is dangerous and unfair to the person you are casting on. Do not INGEST any of these if you've never heard of them. If you collect these herbs from the wild, rememer to take only as much as you need and to thank the plant for it's sacrifice. Leave a small gift of water, cider, a semiprecious stone, or anything you think apropriate. Belane, Ostara, and Midsummer are all excillent times to collect your herbs. There are numerous books and web sources that explain other herbs and how to preserve or press herbs. |
