Christine Daaé

Twisted every way, what answer can I give? Am I to risk my life, to win the chance to live? Can I betray the man, who once inspired my voice? Do I become his prey? Do I have any choice? He kills without a thought, he murders all that's good, I know I can't refuse... and yet, I wish I could. Oh God if I agree, what horrors wait for me, in this: the phantoms opera?

Christine starts life at the Paris Opera House as a ballet/chorus member, but takes the lead in a production of 'Hannibal' when the original Soprano leaves due to a piece of scenery almost falling on her, which was supposedly caused by 'The Phantom Of The Opera'. Christine has a friend, Meg Giry, who asks her where her sudden beautiful voice came from. We learn that Christine has been taught by the Angel Of Music. The Angel of Music, who is really the Phantom, takes Christine to his lair, where he sings for her. The Phantom loves Christine, but Christine is in love with her childhood sweetheart, Raoul le Vicomte De Chagny.

The Phantom's love for Christine and jealousy of Raoul leads to the 'unexplained' deaths of Joseph Buquet, and Ubaldo Piangi. This ends with Christine who is issued with an ultimatum by The Phantom: marry him and live with him, or Raoul will die.

The role of Christine was written for, and played by Sarah Brightman, who was Andrew Lloyd Webber's wife at the time. To find out more about Sarah Brightman:
