Amanda was diagnosed with Leukemia on May 29, 2001 while at Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket, RI. Unfortunately, it took the local doctors a long time to diagnose the leukemia and by the time she got to Memorial, she was one sick girl. Other than her awful sore throat, her badly swollen glands and her badly swollen red gums, she felt like she did not even belong in the hospital. But alas, they felt it best to send her by ambulance to Brigham and Womens in Boston to be taken care of by the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. On June 1, the ambulance took us there and the nightmare called leukemia began.
Amanda was diagnosed with AML M4.� She had two choices of protocol in addition to choosing the regular course of treatment, which she could get at almost any hospital.� The reading was agonizing to choose a protocol.� Amanda had such confidence in her doctors...she just took their recommendation and was confident with that. Her protocol included a fairly new drug called Mylotarg.

Dr. Richard Stone (with his heart of gold), Dr. David Frank (researcher extraordinaire!) and Dr. Iris Chan (expert bone marrow biopsy person!).� I know together we all lost Amanda in the end, but they are forever with us with love, thoughts and prayers Amanda was treated with the utmost in care, respect and love. She, in turn, loved her doctors. Even though remission was acheived after consolidation, Amanda's body could not take the barbaric treatment called CHEMOTHERAPY.
It is our wish that you join us in supporting Dana Farber Cancer Institute, so that a CURE, or at least a better treatment , may be found for leukemia and other blood-related cancers.
