More on the Book & Author

- Scott Sams, co-host, Good Morning Texas, ABC-Channel 8

The book is full of many good family activities throughout North Texas.
-- Iola Johnson, host, Positively Texas, CBS-Channel 11

I salute you for such a great endeavor for our North Texas families.
-- Donna Arp, Mayor, Colleyville

"A great resource for families, or anyone who enjoys exploring their hometown. A user-friendly tool."
-- Todd Chatman, radio host, KCBI-FM [90.9]

"Watching buffalo eat in the wild and hiking among ancient temple mounds are a few of the area's family-friendly activities profiled in this guide."
-- The North Texan

Kevin, a veteran reporter, editor, and photographer, grew up in Dallas. He has two children himself, Preston, age 8, and McKenna, age 5.

In writing this book, Kevin found many fun places beyond obvious ones like Six Flags Over Texas to take his family, such as The Wet Zone Water Park in Rowlett and a fossil hunting adventure near Denton.

This guidebook is different in several ways from others. The other local family guidebooks Kevin read focused on either Dallas or Fort Worth. Kevin covers Dallas County, Tarrant County, Collin County, Denton County, and even surrounding ones in a chapter on daytrips and weekend trips.

He also organizes the book by counties or neighborhoods. So if you live in North Dallas or Arlington, you can go to that chapter and read about what is close to home. He attempts to include something for everyone, including more sports facilities than most guidebooks [Kevin is a big sports fan, having started his journalism career as a sportswriter and playing basketball for his high school and junior college way back in the late '70s]. And then, he mixes in personal stories about visiting Dallas/Fort Worth attractions to try to give this book a little personality and make it more than just relaying information.

In addition, Kevin relates some tips you might not find in other books. One is if you're waiting in line at a water park for a tall slide where you have to climb stairs, watch for kids who might spit on you from above. That happened to him at an area water park.

This Web site will add to the content of the book and get people like yourself involved. Feel free to email your recommendations for fun, educational family attractions in the D/FW area, as well as any comments, questions, and suggestions to us here.

The book has received some good media coverage. That includes NBC Channel 5 here, ABC Channel 8s Good Morning Texas, CBS Channel 11s Positively Texas, Dallas Cables The Razors Edge Arlington Cables Metroplex Today, radio shows on KOAI-FM, KCBI-FM, and Metro Networks Radio [a subsidiary of Infinity Broadcasting Corp.], and newspapers like the Dallas Examiner and Dallas Observer.
