Alaskan Adventure
(Day 12, Salmon on the Kenai)

Fortunately, I booked a second trip for King Salmon fishing in the Kenai.  Jennifer was complaining about getting up early and having to fish.  In fact, she simply stated that she was not fishing.  However, Mark set up a rod for her anyway.  Greg remembered to bring his license and was allowed to fish as well.  This day, two rods were using roe, and two were using plugs with a sardine wrapper.  At the first hole we fished, the College Hole, Jennifer had a strike.  Mark sped up the boat to set the hook, picked up the rod, handed it to Jennifer and said "REEL!"

Jennifer reluctantly took the rod and when the fish pulled, it was evident that she needed help. So, I helped her guide the line around the boat with the rod as the fish moved toward the Pacific Ocean.  After about a 15 minute battle, Mark dipped the net into the river and hauled the salmon into the boat.  We were in awe at the size of this fish!  It was estimated at about 48 pounds.

This fish was nearly as long as Jennifer is tall.  This was the largest fish of our trip.

Jennifer had to gloat over catching the largest fish.

Although we didn't catch any more salmon that day, we did get to see a mother moose and her calves swimming across the river.  Here is a picture of them getting on the far bank.

And, I got a good shot of another moose grazing on the bank of the river.

Here's a closeup

Since the following day was a free day, I had Mark book a halibut fishing trip for Crystal and Greg.
