In July 2003, we launched our legislative committee. We have 5 permanent members and others who attend some of our meetings and activities. This committee discusses ways to present our concerns about budget and service issues to our legislators.
In May 2006, several members of our committee attended the National SABE Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, where we met with members of the Chesterfield People First group to discuss other issues pertinent to our groups.
In January of 2007, our legislative committee drafted letters to our state representatives, asking them to remember the services still needed by our members and associates. We delivered these letters to our representatives on Mental Health Day in January.
We will be visiting Richmond again in January 2008 to speak with our legislators.
We are still working on other agenda items for the proposed meeting with other coalition members in the state.
