| The Patriots run of success in the early AFL came to a crashing halt in 1967. The normally reliable defense which had always kept the Patriots competitive, started showing holes. Even with the league leading rushing of Jim Nance, the Patriots offense struggled mightily as Babe Parilli and company threw 32 interceptions, 7 of which were returned for TDs. The lone bright spot on the season was an 18-7 victory over the division winniing Oilers. The Patriots would not be a contender for the playoffs for another nine years, as the Patriots franchise entered one of their darkest eras. The 1967 squad was the first to lose 10 games, a feat that would be accomplished six more times in the ensuing years. |
