| After their disappointing season in 1965, the Patriots rallied behind the power of Jim Nance as he paced the offense with an AFL record 1,458 yards. With Nance's rushing being complimented by Babe Parilli's passing, the offense scored enough to push the Patriots into first place after a late season 14-3 victory allowed the Patriots to sweep the season series over the two-time East champion Bills. The Patriots held the lead heading into the last game of the season versus the New York Jets. Despite Babe Parilli's 379 yards passing, the Namath led Jets surprised the Patriots 38-28 and Buffalo won their third consecutive crown after defeating Denver. |
