| DEJA VU - HAMMERHEADS' SEASON COMES TO AN END; TRAMPLED BY HORSEMEN | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Ocean City Hammerheads' season came to a screeching halt as the defending PFL Bowl Champion Greensboro Horsemen beached the Hammerheads by a startling 45-17 final score. The Hammerheads were beat, and beat bad, in every phase of the game.
The Hammerheads' major downfall was fumbles lost on their first two possessions. HB Deuce McAllister (7 carries, 36 rushing yards, fumble) and HB Justin Fargas (1 carry, -1 yards, fumble) were the fumbling culprits and the Horsemen were able to capitalize with stellar field position on both recoveries. Better yet, they were able to translate the turnovers into touchdowns. The Horsemen were unstoppable in the redzone, as they scored touchdowns on all six redzone visits. Sophomore QB Colt Brennan was benched again, finishing with miserable numbers: 9-22 (40%) for 107 yards (4.8 yards per attempt) with no touchdowns, three interceptions, and a quarterback rating of 16.9. Backup QB Drew Stanton was unable to replicate his solid week 17 showing, as he finished 4-8 (50%) for 62 yards (7.7 yards per attempt) with a touchdown pass and an interception. TE Leonard Pope was a solid contributor for the Hammerheads' offense, as he finished with 87 receiving yards on five catches (17.3 yards per catch) with 13 yards after the catch. Return specialist/WR Yamon Figurs also faired very well, finishing with 309 kick return yards on eight attempts (38.6 yards per return) with a kick return touchdown of 96 yards. Defensively, the Hammerheads recorded three tackles for loss, two of which were recorded by DT Antonio Dixon and one recorded by DT Kentwan Balmer. The Hammerheads were unable to even break up a single QB Ingle Martin pass, as he played as well could have been asked. He finished 12-14 (85%) for 199 yards (14.2 yards per attempt) with a touchdown pass, no interceptions, and a quarterback rating of 142.5. After the game, head coach Joshua Biddle announced the firing of Offensive Coordinator Joey Fuller, a move that was widely expected in Ocean City. Biddle is widely expected to takeover the role. Additionally, at his press conference, Biddle said "We congratulate the Horsemen on the win. We're not happy at all that we're the ones sitting here congratulating others, but we didn't make the plays and now we get to sit at home. The defense disappointed, embarassed, and were absolutely humiliated. The offense wasn't much better, but the defense deserved the results with the way they played. Pathetic." The Hammerheads will now focus on draft preperation as they enter the offseason. |

| HAMMERHEADS ADVANCE TO CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP WITH DIVISIONAL WIN VERSUS LAKERS | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Hammerheads avenge Lakers' week 17 smackdown of Ocean City to advance | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Ocean City Hammerheads advanced to the NFC Championship game in astonishing fashion, defeating the Orange County Lakers 31-28 on a K Stephen Gostkowski field goal with one second remaining in the game. After the Lakers tied the game with less than two minutes remaining, Ocean City was able to successfully move the ball in an aggressive manner to get in field goal range and get the chance they needed to win the game in regulation. The win avenged the team's heartbreaking week 17 defeat at the hands of the Lakers, a demoralizing win that left the media questioning whether the Hammerheads could bounce back, especially if they were matched up with the Lakers. The Hammerheads will be matched against the winner of the Greensboro Horsemen/Bethel Twp. Nittany Lions game for the NFC crown.
After a week 17 disaster, sophomore QB Colt Brennan looked like his old self, delivering crisp passes to hungry receivers. He finished the game 11-20 (55%) for 150 yards (7.5 yards per pass) with two touchdown passes, no interceptions, and a 112.4 quarterback rating. QB Brennan accomplished this despite uncharacteristic horrible play by the offensive line, as Brennan was put on the ground five times. But the big surprise on the day was the running game - a running game which featured a 100-yard rusher only twice in 16 games. Today would be very different, however, as both HB Deuce McAllister - who got the starting nod during a bye-week shakeup - and HB DeAngelo Williams were ready to roll and roll they did. HB McAllister recorded 153 rushing yards on 13 carries (11.7 yards per carry) with an early touchdown run of 87 yards. HB DeAngelo Williams finished the game with 72 rushing yards of his own on nine carries (8 yards per carry) with a touchdown run. Receiving touchdown were scored by WR Lee Evans (2 receptions, 55 receiving yards, 1 touchdown) and TE Randal Williams (2 receptions, 19 receiving yards, 1 touchdown). Return specialist/WR Yamon Figurs finished the game with 160 kick return yards on five attempts (32 yards per return) with a long of 72 yards and K Stephen Gostkowski added a field on his lone attempt - the difference maker in the game. Defensively, the Hammerheads played poorly, but the offense was able to more than offset the damage. The defensive unit recorded two sacks, one interception, and two passes defensed. The sacks were recorded by rookie 3rd round (69th overall) draft pick DE Michael Johnson and DT Brandon Mebane. The interception was recorded by SS Darren Sharper, with the passes defensed being recorded by CB Richard Marshall and FS Walt Harris. On the win, head coach/GM Joshua Biddle said, "this is a very important win to us because it was coming off of a deflating loss to this very team. We played that game at full strength, didn't hold back anything, and came up empty. Once things started going south at the start of this game, we made some huge adjustments that we hadn't really practiced, and it at least brought back a sense of confidence. The guys needed a jump-start, but they got it done. Hats off to the Lakers for a great season and we look forward to more tough games between us in future seasons." The Hammerheads eagerly await the NFC Conference Championship Game. |

| HAMMERHEADS' 12 GAME WIN STREAK SNAPPED WITH LOSS TO LAKERS | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| QB Brennan benched on fringe of single-season touchdown record due to poor performance | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Ocean City Hammerheads had their franchise-best 12-game winning streak snapped in the regular season finale, losing to the Orange County Lakers by a lopsided score of 41-23. The Hammerheads finish the regular season with a franchise-best 14 wins as the team finished 14-2 and clinched a first round bye, homefield advantage throughout the playoffs, and the PFL's best record on the season.
Ocean City Hammerheads' QB Colt Brennan had a horrific performance, even being benched in the second half in favor of backup QB Drew Stanton. QB Brennan was held to his first game without a touchdown pass all season, finishing 14-30 (36%) for 120 yards passing (4 yards per attempt) with no touchdown passes, three interceptions, and an 18.1 quarterback rating. QB Stanton finished 2-3 (66%) for 65 yards (21.6 yards per attempt) with a touchdown pass, no interceptions, and a 149.3 quarterback rating. WR Lee Evans caught the only touchdown pass of the day for the Hammerheads, finishing with 74 receiving yards on four catches (18.5 yards per catch) with a touchdown reception, a drop, and 19 yards after the catch. The running game was unable to put it together, with the team finishing with only 58 rushing yards. HB DeAngelo Williams led the Hammerheads with 35 rushing yards on eight carries (4.3 yards per carry), with rookie 2nd round (45th overall) draft pick HB Andre Brown adding 23 yards on six carries (3.8 yards per carry). The lone bright spot for Ocean City was the stellar return ability of return specialist/WR Yamon Figurs, who finished the game with 294 kick return yards on eight kick returns (36.7 yards per return) with a return touchdown of 100 yards. Lakers' return specialist/WR Devin Hester matched the kick return touchdown with a 97-yard return of his own. K Stephen Gostkowski added three field goals for Ocean City. Defensively, the Hammerheads were unable to stop the Lakers on the ground or through the air, as the Lakers totaled 142 rushing yards with a 4.9 average per carry. Lakers' HB Frank Gore led all rushers with 67 rushing yards on nine carries (7.4 yards per carry) with two rushing touchdowns and HB Larry Johnson - an early season acquisition upon the return of Lakers' head coach nsaadaie - ran for 62 yards of his own on 15 carries (4.1 yards per carry). The Hammerheads' defensive unit recorded two tackles for loss, three sacks, and four passes defensed. The tackles for loss were recorded by DT Antonio Dixon and rookie 3rd round (69th overall) draft pick DE Michael Johnson. The sacks were recorded by DE Julius Peppers with two and rookie 6th round (141st overall) draft pick OLB Rashad Bobino. The passes were defensed by CB Jack Ikegwuono, CB Kelly Jennings, FS C.J. Wilson, and OLB Napoleon Harris. The Hammerheads have a first round bye - a must-needed break following a loss as disappointing as this one. The Hammerheads and Lakers have a solid shot at meeting up in the divisional playoffs as well. |

| HAMMERHEADS SURVIVE HURRICANES; WIN 12TH STRAIGHT GAME | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Hammerheads' pass rush stellar as DE Peppers notches four sacks | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Ocean City Hammerheads overcame a very poor performance, outlasting their division rival - the Miramar Hurricanes - by a score of 27-24 on their way to their 12th straight victory. The Hammerheads improve to 14-1 on the season, setting a new Hammerheads' record in wins. The Hurricanes watched their receivers drop an astonishing 12 passes, many of which were dropped unobstructed by a defender.
The Hammerheads posted 203 yards of total offense, a stark contrast to the 332 yard output of total offense by the Hurricanes' unit. Sophomore QB Colt Brennan recovered from throwing an interception on his first pass attempt to finish 9-16 (56%) for 180 yards (11.2 yards per attempt) with two touchdown passes, an interception, and a quarterback rating of 109.4. Both touchdown passes thrown by QB Brennan were to rookie 1st round (21st overall) draft pick WR Carlton Mitchell, who finished the game with two catches for 62 receiving yards with two touchdown receptions and nine yards after the catch. Mitchell had one touchdown reception of 47 yards, which helped to break the game open. Other notable receivers were TE Leonard Pope, who finished with 44 receiving yards on two catches with With 17 yards after the catch and WR Lee Evans who finished with a catch for 34 yards. HB Justin Fargas, getting his first gig as the Hammerheads' number two runningback, would see his role be very short-lived as the Hammerheads were unable to move the ball on the ground for much of the first half. Rookie 2nd round ( 45th overall) draft pick HB Andre Brown entered the game and would end the game as the team's leading rusher, finishing with 41 rushing yards on 10 carries (4.1 yards per attempt). HB Deuce McAllister finished with six rushing yards on three carries (2 yards per attempt) and starting HB DeAngelo Williams finished with two rushing yards on five attempts (0.3 yards per carry). KR Yamon Figurs made a big play in the second quarter as he returned a kickoff 103 yards for a touchdown. K Stephen Gostkowski added two field goals on three attempts for Ocean City. Defensively, the Hammerheads recorded five tackles for loss, six sacks, and 10 passes defensed. The tackles for loss were recorded by DE Julius Peppers, rookie 3rd round ( th overall) draft pick DE Michael Johnson, sophomore DE Vernon Gholston, and MLB Jordan Beck. The sacks were recorded by DE Julius Peppers with four and rookie 3rd round (69th overall) draft pick DE Michael Johnson with two. The passes defensed were recorded by FS C.J. Wilson with two, sophomore CB Terrence Wheatley, sophomore CB Jack Ikegwuono, CB Kelly Jennings, SS Darren Sharper, MLB Jordan Beck, OLB Napoleon Harris, veteran LB London Fletcher, and rookie 6th round (141st overall) draft pick OLB Rashad Bobino. The Hammerheads (14-1) will go for their 15th win as they travel to west coast to take on the hot Orange County Lakers (9-6). The Lakers, winners of six straight, could be a potential playoff opponent of the Hammerheads in the NFC Playoff picture. |

| WR JOHNSON CATCHES GAME WINNER FOR HAMMERHEADS AS TEAM CLINCHES 1ST ROUND BYE | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| New regime in Atlantic City makes "Showdown at the Shore" a spectacular event | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Ocean City Hammerheads rode a late-game wave, sliding past the Atlantic City Skullz in a dramatic 35-28 victory to improve to 13-1 on the season and clinch a first round bye in the NFC Playoff picture.
The Skullz put together a game-tying touchdown drive, also converting a two-point attempt, with 47 seconds remaining in the game. Deciding to risk it all with the Skullz clearly carrying the momentum, Hammerheads' head coach Joshua Biddle put the ball into the hands of sophomore QB Colt Brennan, who stunned the Skullz' home crowd by hitting WR Calvin Johnson in stride for a game-winning 53-yard touchdown strike with 17 seconds remaining. The Hammerheads' offense moved the ball through the air with relative ease, but were never able to get the running game started. The Hammerheads were outgained 363 to 342 in total offense, with the Skullz finishing with 217 yards passing and 146 yards rushing and the Hammerheads finishing with 287 yards passing and only 55 yards rushing. Sophomore QB Colt Brennan delivered a big game, despite no running game, finishing 17-24 (70%) for 287 yards (11.9 yards per attempt) with five touchdown passes, two interceptions, and a quarterback rating of 115.8. He connected with WR Calvin Johnson for two touchdown receptions and WR Lee Evans, TE Leonard Pope, and HB DeAngelo Williams for a touchdown a piece. The running game struggled with HB DeAngelo Williams totalling 29 yards on eight carries (3.6 yards per carry) and rookie second round ( th overall) draft pick HB Andre Brown totalling 28 yards on eight carries (3.5 yards per carry). The Hammerheads' offensive line did not allow a sack of QB Brennan, the fifth time out of 14 games they have accomplished this. K Stephen Gostkowski missed a 54-yard field goal attempt that could have put the game away, which allowed the Skullz to tie the game with 47 seconds remaining. The Hammerheads' defensive unit recorded three tackles for loss, three sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, three interceptions, and six passes defensed. The tackles for loss were recorded by rookie fourth round (93rd overall) draft pick DE Maurice Evans with two and rookie fifth round (117th overall) draft pick OLB Bryant Haines. The sacks were recorded by DE Julius Peppers with two and veteran MLB London Fletcher. The forced fumble was recorded by MLB Jordan Beck, who also recovered the fumble on a magnificent play where he laid a monster hit on HB Ryan Grant on a catch out of the backfield in the flat. Interceptions were recorded by CB Jack Ikegwuono, FS C.J. Wilson, and veteran FS Walt Harris. Passes defensed were recorded by CB Richard Marshall with two, CB Terrence Wheatley, CB Kelly Jennings, rookie sixth round (141st overall) draft pick OLB Rashad Bobino, and sophomore DT Kentwan Balmer. The Hammerheads (13-1) will travel to Florida to face their division rival, the Miramar Hurricanes (9-5), in a pre-playoff showdown. The Hurricanes are coming off of a big victory versus the defending PFL Bowl Champion Greensboro Horsemen and are playing excellent football. "It's going to be tough to go in there and win, but we're going to be prepared" head coach Joshua Biddle said in the post game press conference. |

| HAMMERHEADS DISARM WARRIORS; CLINCH PLAYOFF SPOT, NFC NORTH | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| QB Brennan provides solid effort as Hammerheads win again | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Ocean City Hammerheads won their tenth straight game, defeating the El Paso County Warriors by a score of 37-21, improving to 12-1 on the season while also clinching the NFC North Division Championship and a playoff berth in the NFC.
The high-octane Hammerheads' offense accumulated 420 yards of total offense, including 265 passing yards and 155 rushing yards. Sophomore QB Colt Brennan led the way through the air, finishing 19-25 (76%) for 273 yards (10.9 yards per attempt) with three touchdown passes, one interception, and a 133.8 quarterback rating. QB Brennan threw for touchdown passes to WR Lee Evans, WR Calvin Johnson, and TE Leonard Pope. WR Lee Evans finished with 126 receiving yards on six receptions (21 yards per catch) with a touchdown reception, a long catch of 76 yards, and 38 yards after the catch. TE Leonard Pope also had a great game, finishing with 82 receiving yards on three catches (10.6 yards per catch) with a touchdown reception and 24 yards after the catch. On the ground, HB DeAngelo Williams totaled 65 rushing yards on 13 carries (5 yards per carry) with a long run of 29 yards, while HB Justin Fargas finished with 41 yards on two carries (20.5 yards per carry) with a 44-yard touchdown run - his second touchdown run of 20+ yards in the past two games. Rookie second round (41st overall) draft pick HB Andre Brown struggled on the ground, totalling only 33 rushing yards on 14 carries (2.3 yards per carry). K Stephen Gostkowski added three field goals on three attempts for Ocean City. Defensively, the Hammerheads recorded three tackles for loss, three sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, two interceptions, and three passes defensed. The tackles for loss were recorded by DE Julius Peppers, sophomore DE Vernon Gholston, and CB Kelly Jennings. The sacks were recorded by rookie fourth round (93rd overall) DE Maurice Evans with two and rookie third round (69th overall) draft pick DE Michael Johnson. The forced fumble was recorded by veteran CB Patrick Surtain on a kick return with veteran FS Walt Harris recovering the fumble. Interceptions were recorded by sophomore CB Jack Ikegwuono and MLB Jordan Beck. Passes defensed were recorded by CB Kelly Jennings, MLB Jordan Beck, and DE Julius Peppers. Ocean City (12-1) will travel to Atlantic City to face their coastline and division rival, the Atlantic City Skullz (1-12) in week 15 PFL action. The Skullz are playing their first game under a new head coach/GM. A Hammerheads' win and/or a Horsemen or Nittany Lion loss will clinch a first round bye for the Hammerheads. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| HAMMERHEADS DEFEAT SPARTANS | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Team wins ninth straight game on solid defense | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Hammerheads won their ninth consecutive game, defeating the Big Blue Spartans by a score of 20-10 under the Spartans' assistant coach, improving to 11-1 on the season. The Hammerheads finish undefeated on the season at home (8-0) as they bid their fans adieu and close the season on a four-game road stretch.
The two offenses dueled their way to near-even yardage totals, with the Spartans finishing with 312 yards of total offense to the Hammerheads' 311 yards of total offense. Both maintained good balance as well, with the Spartans finishing with 191 yards passing and 121 yards rushing while Ocean City finished with 199 yards passing and 112 yards rushing. Sophomore QB Colt Brennan, coming off of a career day versus the Greenguys in which he threw six touchdown passes, did not enjoy the same success. He finished the game 9-21 (42%) for 199 yards (9.4 yards per attempt) with one touchdown pass, no interceptions, and a 93.1 quarterback rating. His 93.1 quarterback rating marks only the second time this season in 12 games that Brennan's quarterback rating was sub-100, displaying the fact that Brennan has been remarkable after a wildly inconsistent rookie season. QB Brennan's pass distribution was also remarkably unique in this performance, throwing each of his nine completions to different receivers. WR Lee Evans' 62-yard touchdown reception was the big play the Hammerheads needed to break the game open. Rookie second round (45th overall) draft pick HB Andre Brown led the Hammerheads in rushing with 56 rushing yards on 14 carries (4 yards per carry) with a 38 yard run. HB Justin Fargas, who finished with 43 rushing yards on two carries (21.5 yards per carry), added a 38-yard touchdown run of his own early, helping the Hammerheads get out to an early lead. HB Fargas has performed very well in his limited playing time, perhaps, opening they way for him to snag the #2 runningback job away from rookie HB Andre Brown. HB Brown, expected to develop into the power back in the mold of current Hammerhead HB Deuce McAllister, has not lived up to his second round billing thus far, resulting in the 'b' word ('bust') being thrown around among Hammerheads' fans and front office personnel. The Hammerheads' offensive line did not allow a sack of QB Brennan all game, the fourth time in 12 games the young offensive line has accomplished this feat. K Stephen Gostkowski added two field goals on two attempts, rounding out the Hammerheads' scoring. Defensively, the Hammerheads recorded three tackles for loss, four sacks, two interceptions, and ten passes defensed. The tackles for loss were recorded by DE Julius Peppers, veteran MLB London Fletcher, and rookie sixth round (141st overall) draft pick OLB Rashad Bobino. Sacks were recorded by DE Julius Peppers with two, sophomore DT Kentwan Balmer, and CB Richard Marshall. The interceptions were recorded by sophomore CB Jack Ikegwuono and sophomore FS C.J. Wilson. Passes defensed were recorded by CB Jack Ikegwuono with four, sophomore CB Terrence Wheatley with two, CB Kelly Jennings, CB Richard Marshall, rookie fifth round (117th overall) OLB Bryant Haines, and sophomore DE Vernon Gholston. The Hammerheads (11-1) travel to Texas to face the El Paso County Warriors (4-8) in week 14 PFL action. A win for Ocean City will clinch a playoff berth and NFC North Championship for the Hammerheads. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| HAMMERHEADS WIN AGAIN, GET PAST GREENGUYS | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| QB Brennan's record performance keys Hammerheads' eighth straight win | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Ocean City Hammerheads continued their phenomenal season, defeating the Richmond Greenguys by a score of 49-23 to improve to 10-1 on the season while Richmond falls to 5-6. This victory marks the Hammerheads eighth straight win and puts them three games ahead of their division rival Miramar Hurricanes for the division lead.
The Hammerheads offense, again, responded in a big way to the challenge of battling another high scoring team in the Greenguys and their QB Peyton Manning. Sophomore QB Colt Brennan finished 13-19 (68%) for 319 yards (16.7 yards per attempt) with six touchdown passes, no interceptions, and a stellar 150.8 quarterback rating. WR Lee Evans and WR Calvin Johnson were the main beneficiaries of one of QB Brennans most productive games of the season or arguably of his career as Brennan tied a PFL record for most touchdown passes in a single game with six, also held by Destroyers QB Vince Young. WR Calvin Johnson also tied a PFL single game record held by several others for most touchdown receptions in one game, with three. WR Johnson finished the game with 89 receiving yards on five catches (17.7 yards per catch) with three touchdown catches, two drops, and 33 yards after the catch. WR Evans finished with 138 receiving yards on three catches (46 yards per catch) with two touchdown catches and 51 yards after the catch. The other touchdown reception was hauled in by rookie first round (21st overall) draft pick WR Carlton Mitchell. The Hammerheads running game was very effective as well with HB DeAngelo Williams recording 48 yards rushing on ten carries (4.8 yards per carry) and rookie second round (45th overall) draft pick HB Andre Brown recording 44 yards rushing on seven carries (6.2 yards per carry) with a touchdown run. The Hammerheads defensive unit recorded one tackle for loss, seven sacks, two interceptions, and eight passes defensed. The tackle for loss was recorded by sophomore DE Vernon Gholston. The sacks were recorded by DE Julius Peppers with three, sophomore DE Vernon Gholston, DT Kentwan Balmer, DT Antonio Dixon, and rookie fifth round (117th overall) draft pick OLB Bryant Haines. The interceptions were recorded by CB Kelly Jennings and CB Jack Ikegwuono. The passes defensed were recorded by CB Kelly Jennings with two, MLB Jordan Beck with two, FS C.J. Wilson, FS Walt Harris, SS Darren Sharper, and rookie sixth round (141st overall) draft pick OLB Rashad Bobino. Ocean City (10-1) will return home for their last home game of the regular season versus the Big Blue Spartans (4-7) before finishing the season on a four week road trip. A win versus the Spartans would make the Hammerheads undefeated at Aquamarine Stadium this season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| HAMMERHEADS DEHORN RAMS | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Rookie HB Brown, Hammerheads' defense huge in victory | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Ocean City Hammerheads won their seventh straight game by a score of 46-18 over the Sylvania Rams, improving to 9-1 on the season as the Rams fall to 3-7.
The Hammerheads offense recorded 383 yards of total offense as both sophomore QB Colt Brennan and the running game, particularly rookie second round (45th overall) draft pick HB Andre Brown. QB Brennan finished the game 9-14 (64%) for 219 yards (15.6 yards per attempt) with three touchdown passes, one interception, and a quarterback rating of 117.6. WR Lee Evans, WR Calvin Johnson, and TE Leonard Pope all caught touchdown passes for the Hammerheads. QB Brennan has thrown at least two touchdown passes in all ten games this season, cementing himself as a legitimate weapon after a wildly inconsistent rookie season. HB Andre Brown, who was starting to hear grumblings of bust from the Ocean City and PFL media, started to silence critics by performing on the field to the tune of 116 rushing yards on 19 carries (6.1 yards per carry) including a touchdown run and a fumble. On the first play from scrimmage of the game, HB Brown took a handoff 77 yards for a touchdown to immediately put the Hammerheads in front. This game marked HB Browns first 100-yard rushing game of his career and it displayed his ability to be effective in a way that has been non-existent since his three touchdown game in week one. K Stephen Gostkowski added six field goals on six attempts for Ocean City. Defensively, the Hammerheads recorded five tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, four interceptions, and eight passes defensed. The tackles for loss were recorded by DE Julius Peppers with two, sophomore DE Vernon Gholston, rookie sixth round (141st overall) draft pick OLB Rashad Bobino, and SS Darren Sharper. The sack was recorded by MLB Jordan Beck. The forced fumble was recorded by MLB Jordan Beck as he hit HB LaDanian Tomlinson, and the fumble was recovered by SS Darren Sharper. The interceptions were recorded by FS C.J. Wilson, FS Walt Harris, MLB Jordan Beck, and DE Vernon Gholston. The passes defensed were recorded by CB Terrence Wheatley with three, MLB Jordan Beck with two, CB Jack Ikegwuono, FS Walt Harris, and SS Darren Sharper. The Hammerheads contained Rams QB Tony Romo to a horrid performance, one in which he finished 6-18 (33%) for 64 yards (3.5 yards per attempt) with no touchdowns, three interceptions, and a miserable 5.1 quarterback rating. QB Seneca Wallace entered in relief and didnt fare much better, finishing 3-9 (33%) for 58 yards (6.4 yards per attempt) with no touchdown passes, an interception, and a quarterback rating of 17.1. HB LaDanian Tomlinson was contained well and he finished with 60 yards rushing on 20 carries (3 yards per carry) with a touchdown run and a fumble lost, along with 58 yards receiving on four catches (14.5 yards per catch) which included a 52-yard reception that fell short of the endzone by two yards after a touchdown-saving tackle by CB Terrence Wheatley. Ocean City (9-1) will travel to face the Richmond Greenguys (5-5) in week 12 PFL action. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| HAMMERHEADS ROLL PAST REDSKINS | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Hammerheads roll thanks to another solid game from QB Brennan | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Hammerheads won their sixth straight game by a score of 27-7 over the Rickards Redskins, improving to 8-1 on the season as the Redskins fall to .500 at 5-5.
The Hammerheads offense, once again, attacked the Redskins defense out of the gate and never looked back, accumulating 327 yards of total offense (172 passing, 155 rushing). Sophomore QB Colt Brennan continued his breakout season, finishing 12-19 (63%) for 178 yards (9.3 yards per attempt) with two touchdowns passes, no interceptions, and a quarterback rating of 128.8. He threw touchdown passes to WR Calvin Johnson and rookie second round (45th overall) HB Andre Brown. HBs DeAngelo Williams and HB Andre Brown both were given another chance to start, and it paid off. HB Williams recorded 69 yards on 12 carries (5.7 yards per carry) with a touchdown run and HB Brown recorded 58 yards on seven carries (8.2 yards per carry). K Stephen Gostkowski added two field goals for Ocean City. Defensively, the Hammerheads recorded three tackles for loss, three sacks, two interceptions, and six passes defensed. The tackles for loss were recorded by DT Kentwan Balmer, MLB Jordan Beck, and FS C.J. Wilson. The sacks were recorded by rookie third round (69th overall) draft pick DE Michael Johnson with two and rookie fifth round (117th overall) draft pick OLB Bryant Haines. The interceptions were recorded by FS C.J. Wilson and DE Julius Peppers. The passes defensed were recorded by CB Richard Marshall with two, CB Terrence Wheatley, CB Kelly Jennings, FS C.J. Wilson, and rookie sixth round (141st overall) draft pick OLB Rashad Bobino. Ocean City (8-1) will hit the road for their week 11 matchup versus the Sylvania Rams (3-6). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| HAMMERHEADS DECLAW TIGERS | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| QB Brennan solid again in victory | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Ocean City Hammerheads offense came out to play again, propelling the team to a 40-28 victory over the Kansas City Tigers, improving Ocean City to 7-1 on the season with their fifth straight win while Kansas City falls to .500 at 4-4.
The Hammerheads offensive unit recorded 346 yards of total offense, 231 yards passing and 115 yards rushing. Sophomore QB Colt Brennan finished 13-24 (54%) for 231 yards (9.6 yards per attempt) with three touchdown passes, one interception, and a 109.5 quarterback rating. QB Brennan hooked up with rookie first round (21st overall) draft pick WR Carlton Mitchell and TE Randal Williams twice for touchdowns. HB Deuce McAllister got the start for Ocean City with HB Justin Fargas playing the backup role after the previous struggles of HB DeAngelo Williams and rookie second round (45th overall) HB Andre Brown. HB McAllister finished the game as the Hammerheads leading rusher with 51 yards on 10 carries (5 yards per carry) and HB Fargas adding 40 yards on eight carries (5 yards per carry) with a touchdown run. The Hammerheads offensive line protected QB Brennan well, not allowing a single sack. K Stephen Gostkowski added a field goal for Ocean City. Defensively, the Hammerheads contained Kansas City very well until a late surge by the Tigers. The defensive unit recorded four tackles for loss, two sacks, two interceptions, one defensive touchdown, five passes defensed, and a safety. | HAMMERHEADS OUTDUEL PLAYBOYS | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| HB Deuce McAllister proves he's not "done"; QB Brennan solid in victory | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Ocean City Hammerheads won their third consecutive game, defeating the Los Angeles Playboys by a score of 24-14, improving to 5-1 on the season and dropping Los Angeles to 3-2.
The Hammerheads earned the win despite the lack of a running game in the first half, which resulted in the benching of runningback duo HB DeAngelo Williams and rookie second round (45th overall) draft pick HB Andre Brown at halftime in favor of HB Deuce McAllister and HB Justin Fargas. Despite the lack of success running the ball, the Hammerheads did not abandon the run and the team managed to accumulate 329 yards of total offense including a total of 243 yards passing and 86 yards rushing. Sophomore QB Colt Brennan played good football in spite of having the burden of moving the ball, finishing 14-25 (56%) for 249 yards (9.9 yards per attempt) with two touchdown passes, no interceptions, and a quarterback rating of 116.9. QB Brennans biggest play occurred when he hooked up with HB Deuce McAllister for an 82-yard touchdown reception, which couldnt have come at a better time as the Hammerheads and Playboys agreed on a trade to send McAllister to Los Angeles for a draft pick during this past draft, only to have Los Angeles back out at the last minute saying hes done. The other touchdown reception was scored by WR Anthony Gonzalez. HB Justin Fargas was the most successful Hammerheads runner, recording 34 yards rushing on seven carries (4.8 yards per carry) with a touchdown run. K Stephen Gostkowski added a field goal from 38 yards out for Ocean City. Defensively, the Hammerheads recorded six tackles for loss, one sack, and 12 passes defensed. Wilson, and SS Darren Sharper. Ocean City (5-1) has a bye week in week six, followed by a home game versus the Thoma Avenue Brawlers (1-5) in week seven. |

| Hammerheads hope to have bolstered offense, defense through selections | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| HAMMERHEADS' 2008 (SEASON 2) DRAFT CLASS | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Ocean City Hammerheads, led by head coach/GM Joshua Biddle, attempted to make their first PFL Draft of the new era a successful one. With their first round selection (21st overall), the Hammerheads selected WR Carlton Mitchell out of the University of Southern Florida (USF). Mitchell, 21, is a 64 receiver with great speed, making him a hot commodity. His long limbs make it nearly impossible to defend when he goes | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| up to get a ball. Head coach/general manager Joshua Biddle said regarding Mitchell, we feel he can come in and contribute right away. His hands were the biggest question mark coming out, but we departed his workout very impressed with everything we saw. With their second round selection (45th overall), Ocean City selected HB Andre Brown out of North Carolina State. Brown, 23, is a powerful, compact runner at 60, 232 pounds. He is very tough to bring down when he has a full head of steam. With HB Deuce McAllister on the roster playing the role of power back, it remains to be seen whether McAllister will be with the team this coming season. Regarding Brown, head coach/GM Biddle said, Andre is a really powerful back that can wear down defenses. He doesnt have good breakaway speed, but he is a bruiser that can move the chains and punish defenders while doing so. We want him to add some weight over the course of his first few seasons in hopes that he can become a more powerful runner, since the people he ran over in college arent the same defenders in the PFL. This is a whole different ballgame. With their third round selection (69th overall), the Hammerheads selected DE Michael Johnson out of Georgia Tech. Johnson, 22, has great measurables at 67, 299 pounds, while also possessing surprising speed and burst for a man his size. He will battle disappointing DE Vernon Gholston, who underachieved in his rookie season as a full time defensive end, for playing time. With their fourth round (93rd overall) draft pick, Ocean City selected DE Maurice Evans out of Penn State University. Evans, 21, is a 297 pound defensive end that can stuff the run and rush the passer. Another end with good size, he has the bulk to bull rush and the speed to get off of the edge. On his two new defensive ends, head coach/GM Biddle said, we are expecting alot from those two guys. Its no secret that Vernon [Gholston] didnt light the world on fire, so we wanted to bring in some more fresh bodies to take some snaps and do some damage. By all means, we havent given up on Vernon, but these guys were the best players available in our eyes at the given moment, so you have to take the best talent out there. You dont leave guys of this caliber to get picked by somebody else if the opportunity to add them to your roster presents itself, plain and simple. We have a ton of depth on the defensive line now and can work on doing some interesting things to attack opposing offenses. With their fifth round (117th overall) draft pick, the Hammerheads selected LB Bryant Haines out of Ball State University. Haines, 22, is a 67 linebacker that is best suited to play in coverage as a strong side linebacker. His size makes him a favorable matchup against opposing tight ends with size. He will likely battle with incumbent OLB Napoleon Harris for playing time. With their sixth round (141st) overall selection, Ocean City selected LB Rashad Bobino out of the University of Texas. Bobino, 22, is a solid linebacker who projects well on the weak side. He has a realistic chance of winning a competition with incumbent OLB Roosevelt Colvin for the starting job if Colvin shows a decline in his abilities. On his new linebackers, head coach/GM Biddle said, we love the linebackers we drafted. There were lots of solid linebacker prospects in this draft, so we could have gone many different ways, but we felt that these two guys can really develop into starting-caliber linebackers in this defense. We like Haines ability to play in coverage and his size because it could help to deter jump balls from opposing quarterbacks, while Bobinos speed should allow us to use him in a versatile manner, whether we ask him to blitz or cover guys out of the backfield or tight ends. These two give us lots of options. With their 7th round (165th overall) draft pick, the Hammerheads selected FB Jorvorskie Lane out of Texas A&M. Lane, 23, appears likely to win the job as the teams starting fullback. Biddle said of Lane, we loved Jorvorskie because the man can block. Hes very physical and we like the idea of him being the lead blocker for our backs. He is a hard-nosed player who can pound the ball when called upon, and can catch surprisingly well for a big guy too. We expect him to be among the best players youve never heard of if everything goes according to plan with this guy. It will be interesting to see how the rookies perform in training camp and in preseason as they fight to earn starting spots on a talented Hammerheads' roster. |
