One evening on 13th January 2002, we got a frantic call from the Air Force Base at Agra. A huge python had been sighted exactly opposite the nursery school in the Base. The school would be opening the next day after vacations. Could we do something about it? ![]() On reaching the spot we saw a python more than 6 feet long sitting all coiled up. Sadly, it had been pelted with stones by passer byes. The families living at the base were all keen that we should somehow get the snake away from that place and rehabilitate it anywhere but there. ![]() We could not get any professional snake catcher, so we had to do the job ourselves. We got hold of a huge and very old tarpoline. One of our members climbed a wall and with the aid of two long branches we gently prodded the snake towards the direction of the tarpoline which was held on either side and which we had perforated earlier. The snake very kindly obliged, it slowly slithered towards the tarpoline, the minute it entered it, we quickly wrapped it round the snake taking utmost care not to hurt it or smother it. ![]() All heaved a sigh of relief and thanked us profusely for taking immediate action. The case was not closed for us. We had to take the snake to a spot where it would not be harassed, would be away from human habitation plus in an environment suiting it. ![]() Keetham Lake in Agra has a point known as PYTHON POINT. Due to dense forest action it proved to be the ideal spot. We took it there and released it with a prayer for its safety. | |||
