The Beginning: I've
always been interested in art in one way or another. Growing
up there was always construction paper, crayons, markers, modeling
clay, craft books, colored pencils, glue, fabric, paint-anything and
everything to foster a young creative mind. As a child it was
a form of play with my friends and siblings. I would like to
thank my mother for providing me and my siblings the tools to spark
creative minds at a young age.
The Middle: I joined the band
in 5th grade and played clarinet until I graduated
high school. The only art classes I took during that time were
those required in 7th & 8th grade. I enjoyed them but was
preoccupied with my newfound love for music and delusional idea to
become a music teacher. That idea faded fast as I developed a
love for architecture and design during high school. I saw a
special on HGTV about Frank
Lloyd Wright and was hooked instantly. There was something
about the detail to which he designed each and every aspect of his
projects that still amazes me.
The College Years Part I:
I was off to Newark, NJ in the Fall of 2002 to study
architecture at the New Jersey School
of Architecture (part of New Jersey Institute of Technology).
I loved what I was learning as far as design and architecture went,
however I learned in the beginning of my second year that it was not
architecture that I loved, but the design of it.
I loved the friends I had made at
NJIT and was not in a financial position to transfer to another
university. I was also introduced to the Information
Technology department by friends. I chose to do IT with my
concentration in Graphic Design.
The College Years Part II-The
Transfer: I soon found that there was more emphasis on computer
programming than the Design than I had thought, and I realized that
choosing IT just to stay at my school with my friends wasn't a wise
decision. So I did what should have been done a year earlier-
looked into transferring. I was accepted to both Rutgers-Newark
and UNC Greensboro's BFA programs and had to make the difficult
decision. After 3 years at NJIT, it was difficult to make the
transfer and move to Greensboro. But here I am. I have
discovered a love for photography and film here and am finding ways
to incorporate my love for architecture in my design into my work. After graduating I
hope to work in commercial or fashion advertising doing photography
and/or print graphics. |

Spring 2006::I had a short film
selected for the Student Digital Media Show in April at UNCG's
Weatherspoon Art Museum. Nothing fantastic, just a show for the
students to watch each others' work. Most of us didn't know our
work was even submitted.
Winter 2006::I am currently redesigning the logo for Plaster Creations Inc. To learn more about Plaster Creations Inc. click here. |
