Int. Potter B&B (Morning of Day 1)
This scene takes place the morning after Sex On My Mind ended. Pacey and Joey are asleep in her bed. Joey is wearing a tank top and drawstring pajama bottoms. Pacey is wearing only his boxers. They are under the covers with Joey curled up next to Pacey with her head on his chest. The shades are closed, so the room is almost completely dark. The door opens and a strip of light falls across the floor, but not over the bed. Bessie walks in, and she glances at the bed only seeing a lump under the covers.
Bessie: Joey youre going to be late.
The bodies in the bed shift slightly. Bessie walks over to the window, and pulls up the shade with a snap. Sunlight floods the room, and Pacey groans. Bessies head snaps to the bed, and a look of shock crosses her face as she notices Pacey in bed with Joey. Her shock quickly turns into anger.
Bessie: (shouting) What the hell is going on?
Joey and Pacey both jump awake. Joey gets out of bed quickly, while Pacey reaches for his pants on the floor.
Joey: (in a hurry) Bessie its not what you think.
Bessie: Not what I think?? Pacey is in your bed naked, and its not what I think.
Joey: Hes not naked Bessie.
Pacey pulls on his pants, and stands up.
Pacey: Bessie Im sorry, but its not what you think.
Bessie: Pacey, this is between me and Joey.
Pacey: Bessie...
Bessie: (cutting him off) Pacey leave. (with emphasis) Now.
Joey: (begging) Bessie just let us explain.
Pacey grabs his shirt off the floor, and he pulls it over his head.
Pacey: Bessie Im sorry.
Bessie just glares at him. Pacey looks at Joey who is in a state between anger and tears. He touches her arm lightly.
Pacey: Ill see you at school.
Joey nods, and Pacey looks at her one more time before leaving.
Bessie: Joey Potter you are in big trouble.
Joey: Bessie nothing happened. I swear.
Bessie: I told you he couldnt sleep here.
Joey: (crying angrily) He had nowhere else to go. I couldnt let him leave.
Bessie: (confused) What are you talking about??
Joey: Doug asked him to leave, and he cant stay at his house. I couldnt make him go home. You just dont understand how horrible it is for him there.
Bessie: (softening her tone) Joey...
Joey: (cutting her off) Im sorry Bessie. I know you said he couldnt stay, but he needed me. I needed to be there for him.
Bessie: Jo, this is getting out of control. You sail away for the entire summer with him, and now hes staying here. Youre 17. You need to slow down.
Joey: (shocked) What???
Bessie: Pacey is taking over your life.
Joey: (quietly) I love him.
Bessie: I know, but Jo what about your life? Have you even started your college applications? Have you been working on your art?
Joey: (getting defensive) I will. I have time.
Bessie: I think you need to take a step back from Pacey, Jo.
Joey: What???
Bessie: I like Pacey. I do, and Im happy you are so in love, but youre getting way too serious. I just dont want to see you give up your life for him. To give up your dreams.
Joey: (quietly) Im not.
Bessie: Jo, you have a real chance of getting out of here. Dont give that up for a boy.
Joey looks at Bessie understanding registering on her face.
Joey: Im going to be late for school.
Bessie: Just think about what I said, Jo. Im not against Pacey. Im just worried about you.
Joey: I will.
Joey walks by Bessie, and she leaves the room. Bessie runs her hands through her hair and sighs.
Fade out to credits...
Act 1
Int. Dawsons House (Morning of Day 1)
Mitch and Gale are in the kitchen making breakfast. Mitch is scrambling eggs, while Gale is pouring the coffee.
Mitch: (looking up) Should you be drinking that?
Gale: (confused) What?
Mitch: Caffeine isnt good for the baby.
Gale sighs and leans against the counter.
Gale: Do you know how long its been since Ive been pregnant?
Mitch: Seventeen years?
Gale: (looking up) Mitch this isnt going to be easy.
Mitch walks over, and he puts his hands on her hips.
Mitch: Youll be fine. Well figure everything out.
Gale: I know, but at my age pregnancy can have many complications.
Mitch: (kissing her forehead) I know this, and well be prepared for anything that may happen, but right now lets just worry about what is happening right now.
Gale: Which is?
Mitch: (stepping away from Gale) Dawson. We have to tell Dawson.
Gale walks away from the counter.
Gale: I dont know how hes going to react. Hes been an only child his whole life.
Mitch: Yes but I also think hes old enough, and mature enough to be happy for us.
Gale: I hope so. Im just worried hell be upset.
Mitch: Well its a possibility, but hes almost an adult. Hell just have to deal with it.
Dawson walks into the kitchen during Mitchs last sentence.
Dawson: (slightly worried) Deal with what?
Mitch and Gale look up at Dawson. Gale smiles.
Gale: Well honey...
Dawson: (interrupting) Is everything okay??
Mitch: Everythings fine.
Dawson: (sighing) Good, because I dont think I could handle any more change in my life. I mean things are finally back to normal around here. The way they should be.
Mitch and Gale exchange a worried look.
Dawson: So whats up?
Gale: Well...
Mitch: (cutting her off) Your mothers been working too hard lately, and she is getting worn out. We need you to help out more at the restaurant.
Dawson: (confused) Sure. Im starting my movie, but Im sure I can squeeze in more time at the restaurant. Are you okay mom?
Gale: Im fine honey. Thank you.
Dawson: No problem. I gotta get to school. Ill stop by the restaurant later.
Gale: Have a good day.
Mitch: Dawson, do you need a ride?
Dawson: No I can walk.
Mitch: See you at school.
Dawson: See ya.
Dawson leaves, and Mitch and Gale look at each other worried.
Gale: Hes not going to take the news well.
Mitch: (sighing) No hes not.
Int. Capeside High (Morning of Day 1)
Jack and Andie are walking down the hall.
Jack: I still cannot believe you got your belly button pierced.
Andie: I know its so unlike me.
Jack: Tell me about it. Whats dad going to say?
Andie: (panicking she turns to Jack) Youre not going to tell him are you? I mean what he doesnt know wont hurt him.
Jack: (raising his eyebrow) Whats gotten into you? I mean this is not like you to be so spontaneous, and sneaky.
Andie: Im trying to loosen up and have fun. (begging) Dont tell dad Jack. Please.
Jack: Dont worry your secrets safe with me.
Andie: (with a big smile) Thank you.
Jack: What are big brothers for?
Andie: Youre the best.
Jack: (with a grin) I know. So whos this guy?
Andie: What guy?
Jack: What guy??? The guy who has you sticking metal appendages into your body, and is leaving hickeys on your neck.
Andies hand flies self consciously up to her neck.
Andie: (worried) Can you still see it?
Jack: (lying) Nah, and anyways if someone asks just tell them you burnt yourself with a curling iron.
Andie socks Jack lightly on the arm.
Jack: Its good to see you smile again.
Andie: I always smile.
Jack: Its good to see you smile for real again.
Andie: Thanks Jack. Im happy. I mean Im finally feeling like Ive let Pacey go, and Im moving on with my life.
Jack: So I repeat the initial question. Whos the guy?
Andie: (with a shy grin) Daniel.
Int. Capeside High (Morning of Day 1)
Daniel is walking down another hall. Down the hall Joey is at her locker. She pulls a book out of her backpack, and her backpack falls open spilling the contents on the ground.
Joey: (mumbling) Great.
Joey kneels down to pick up the spilled contents. She starts shoving things back into her backpack. Daniel kneels next to her, and picks up a few notebooks and hands them to her. Joey looks up and smiles.
Joey: Thanks.
Daniel: (standing up) No problem.
Joey stands up as well and zips her backpack.
Daniel: Im Daniel by the way.
Joey: (distracted) Joey.
Daniel: Nice to meet you.
Joey: (looking down the hall) You too, and thanks again.
Daniel: It was nothing.
Joey starts walking away.
Daniel: See ya around.
Joey turns around and half smiles.
Joey: Yeah.
Daniel watches her walk down the hall until she turns the corner.
Ext. Capeside High (Morning of Day 1)
Jen and Henry are sitting at a table outside the High School. Henry has his arms around Jen as they talk.
Henry: I really enjoyed last night.
Jen: So did.
They share a kiss.
Henry: I cant wait to do that again.
Jen: Patience Parker. Dont turn into a sex crazed maniac on me.
Henry: Im not.
The bell rings. Jen stands up.
Jen: Time to go.
Henry: (groaning) Okay, can I see you later?
Jen: I have to work this afternoon, and then plow through that stack of homework Ive been putting off.
Henry: (disappointed) Oh.
Jen: (not really noticing) Ill see you at lunch.
Henry: Okay.
Jen gives him a quick kiss before heading into the school. Henry leans back and sighs.
Int. Cafeteria Capeside High (Day 1)
Dawson walks out of the lunch line with his tray, and he looks around the cafeteria. He sees Andie sitting with Jack, Jen, and Henry, and he heads over.
Dawson: Hey guys.
Jen: Hey Dawson.
Jack nods his head because his mouth is full.
Andie: Hi Dawson.
Dawson sets his tray down next to Andie.
Dawson: So Im starting my movie, and Im going to need all your guys help.
Jen: You know Im in.
Andie: Me too.
Jack: Just let me know what I can do.
Henry: Ill help.
Jen looks at Henry in slight shock.
Dawson: Thanks Henry. (turning to Jack) I need you to help with the sets. You did such a great job last time.
Jack: No problem. Without football sucking my time up this fall I have an abundance of free time.
Henry: We miss you on the team Jack. I wish you would reconsider.
Andie: You know Jack you might have been able to get a scholarship.
Jack: (snorting) I wasnt that good. Parker here can get a scholarship.
Andie: Jack thats not true.
Jack: (pointedly) Andie football just isnt my thing.
Andie: You have so much talent Jack. You can do anything you want.
Jack: Thanks. (turning to Dawson) Dawson just let me know what you need, and Ill get to work on it.
Dawson: Thanks, and Andie I need your help gathering a crew, and cast. Once we get that we can start organizing a shooting schedule.
Andie: No problem. We can start this afternoon.
Dawson: Great. Can you meet me at my moms restaurant after school?
Andie: Sure.
Jen: What do I get to do?
Dawson: Well, once we get a cast a crew Ill need your help with the actual shooting.
Jen: Sounds good.
Dawson: I cant thank you guys enough for your help.
Jen: Its no problem.
Andie: Yeah were just glad you have rediscovered your love for film.
Jen: Youre just not Dawson Leary without it.
Dawson: Yeah a lot had been missing from my life. I didnt feel like Dawson Leary without it.
Int. Cafeteria Capeside High (Day 1)
Joey walks away from the lunch line. She glances towards the table with Jen, Jack, Andie, Dawson, and Henry. Slight sadness washes over her face. She moves her eyes to scan the cafeteria, and she spots Pacey sitting in the corner. The sadness is instantly replaced with a smile. She walks over to his table, and sits down. Pacey looks up relief washing over his face.
Pacey: Jo, I am so sorry about this morning.
Joey leans over and kisses him.
Joey: Its not your fault.
Pacey: It is. I should have at least slept on the floor.
Joey: (sternly) Pacey, Im only going to say this one more time. Its not your fault.
Pacey: Im just so sorry I caused trouble between you and Bessie.
A look of pain flashes across Joeys face.
Pacey: (concerned) Jo are you okay?
Joey: (forcing a smile) Yeah, everything is going to be okay.
Pacey: What did Bessie say after I left?
Joey: Nothing she was just mad, and I explained what happened, and that nothing happened.
Pacey: Did she believe you?
Joey: I think so. I mean it is the truth. Nothing happened. We just slept.
Pacey: I know, but it had to look bad from her point of view.
Joey: Yeah, but Im pretty positive she believed me.
Pacey: Good. I should go talk to her after school.
Joey: (panicking) Pacey no.
Pacey: Why not?
Joey: I dont know. I just think itll make things worse.
Pacey: She doesnt like me.
Joey: She adores you. Its just... (her voice trails off)
Pacey: (worried) What?
Joey: (hesitantly) She thinks things are too serious between us.
Pacey: (shocked and angry) What???
Joey: She thinks things are too serious. That we are too involved in each other.
Pacey: Is that what you think?
Joey: (slightly defensive) No of course not.
Pacey: But...
Joey: Pacey I dont know.
Pacey: You dont know what??
Joey: Pacey just let it go. It doesnt mater what she thinks. I love you. Thats all that matters.
Pacey gives her a skeptical look, but he doesnt argue.
Int. Learys Fresh Fish (Day 1)
Dawson and Andie are sitting at a table in the back.
Dawson: Do you think people will work for free?
Andie: Well, its a possibility. I mean its a chance to be in a movie, and you could always get your parents to offer free food for working on it.
Dawson: Thats a good idea. Im using all the money I have saved for film, and equipment.
Andie: Maybe you could get someone to fund your film. Like a sponsor.
Dawson: (perking up at the idea) Yeah, (pausing) but who?
Andie: (shaking her head) I dont know.
Jen walks up to the table.
Jen: Hows the movie talk going?
Dawson: Frustrating. We have no money. Want to be my sponsor?
Jen: (sarcastically) Sure let me go raid my piggy bank.
They all chuckle.
Andie: Have you asked your parents for money?
Dawson: No. I mean they arent hurting for money, but they are using all their money to run this restaurant.
Andie: Right it probably isnt turning a profit yet.
Dawson: Not exactly. So that leaves me at square one. Any ideas who might be willing to put up money for my film?
Andie: Maybe the Country Club, or the Capeside historical society?
Jen: What about Mrs. Freckerling?
Dawson: (confused) Who?
Jen: The homecoming queen from hell, but shes a nice old lady who has tons of money and nothing to waste it on.
Dawson: (hopeful) You think she would?
Jen: Its possible. I could have Henry talk to her.
Dawson: Jen that would be great. Any amount of money would be helpful.
Jen: Ill ask Henry next time I talk to him.
Andie: Well you could ask now, cause he just walked in.
Jens head snaps to the door.
Dawson: (slightly amused) Hes like a puppy.
Jen: (warning him) Dawson.
Dawson: Sorry but he follows you around like this little lost puppy.
Jen: I know.
Dawson tries not to laugh as Henry approaches them.
Henry: Hey.
Dawson: Hey Henry.
Andie: Hi.
Henry: Whats going on?
Dawson: Nothing just racking our brains for ideas on where to get funding.
Andie: Jen thought that maybe you could talk to Mrs. Freckerling about maybe sponsoring Dawsons film.
Henry: I could do that.
Dawson: Do you think she would?
Henry: She might. She loves to help young people, but it would probably be nice if you talked to her. Shes rather lonely, and craves the company.
Dawson: I could do that.
Andie: Me too.
Henry: Ill run the idea by her, and then bring you up to talk to her.
Dawson: Thanks Henry.
Andie: Yes, thank you.
Henry: No problem. (turning to Jen who had been silent and growing more annoyed) So what time do you get off?
Jen: Henry, I told you I have to do homework tonight.
Henry: I know, but I thought we could do homework together.
Jen: Wed get a lot done that way.
Henry: Would that be a bad thing?
Jen: Yes it would.
Andie and Dawson shift nervously as the tension between Henry and Jen builds.
Henry: (pleading) I just want to spend time with you.
Jen: I know Henry.
Gale: (OS) Jen, I need you over here.
Jen: (looks towards the door) I got to get back to work.
Jen walks off. An uncomfortable silence follows as Henry watches her walk off. He turns back to Dawson and Andie.
Henry: Ill talk to Mrs. Freckerling tonight. Its not like I have any other plans.
Dawson: Thanks man.
Henry nods and walks off.
Dawson: Well that was awkward.
Andie: I know. Poor Jen.
Dawson: Poor Henry. The guys got it bad.
Int. Capeside High (Day 1)
Schools out and Joey is walking down the deserted hall. She rounds a corner and sees Mr. Milo leaving his office. Mr. Milo looks up.
Mr. Milo: Miss Potter.
Joey stops.
Joey: Yes.
Mr. Milo: I was just looking over the senior SAT scores, and noticed you dont have any.
Joey: (embarrassed) I havent taken them yet.
Mr. Milo: I hope youre not planning on not going to college Joey. Your grades are outstanding. Your future is bright. You have the potential to do very well in a college environment.
Joey: Thanks for the pep talk Mr. Milo, but I am going to college. Im taking the SATs this Saturday.
Mr. Milo: Good. A little late, but good. Why dont you stop by my office tomorrow, and we can talk about your college plans?
Joey: (nervously) Okay.
Mr. Milo: Great. See you tomorrow, and Joey...
Joey: Yeah.
Mr. Milo: Keep up the good work. Youre a bright girl.
Joey: (giving him a little smile) Thanks.
Mr. Milo walks away, and Joey sighs. She continues down the hall. The sound of someone playing a piano becomes evident, and Joey follows the sound to the music room. She walks in, and she sees Daniel sitting at the piano playing. She stops to listen. Daniel becomes aware that someone is in the room, and stops playing. He turns around.
Joey: (feeling a little guilty being caught eavesdropping) Sorry.
Daniel: Its okay.
Joey: (walking further into the room) It was really pretty.
Daniel: Thanks.
Joey: (stopping near Daniel) I didnt recognize it. What was it?
Daniel: Theres a reason you wouldnt recognize it since its mine.
Joey: (surprised) You compose piano sonatas.
Daniel: It wasnt technically a sonata, but yeah I write music on a piano. Wouldnt have guessed that would you, Joey?
Joey: (with a little laugh) Not really. Whats it called?
Daniel: (teasing) Joey. I wrote it for you.
Joey: Do other girls usually fall for that line?
Daniel: (smiling) Sometimes. Did it work on you?
Joey: (seriously) I have a boyfriend.
Daniel: I assumed you did.
Joey: (shocked by his answer) Why?
Daniel: A beautiful girl like you always has a boyfriend.
Joey smiles shyly.
Daniel: (seriously) Hes a lucky guy.
Joey: Im a lucky girl to have him.
Daniel: Then why are you so sad?
Joey: (defensive) What makes you say Im sad?
Daniel: Your eyes.
Joey looks away.
Joey: Hes not why Im sad.
Daniel: Good. (joking) Id have to beat him up.
Joey laughs lightly. The mood lightens, and Daniel turns back to the piano. He starts playing again, and Joey moves to sit next to him on the bench.
Ext. Potter B&B (Day 1)
Pacey slowly walks up to the front door. He hesitates slightly before knocking. Bessie opens the door. She stares at Pacey.
Pacey: Bessie please just let me explain.
Bessie: Joey already told me what happened.
Pacey: I know, but I want things between us to be okay. I didnt mean any disrespect by staying here last night. I shouldnt have stayed. I know this.
Bessie: (growing concerned and mothering) Pacey, Im not so much mad that you stayed. You can stay here if you have nowhere else to go. I would never turn you away.
Pacey: (touched) Thank you.
Bessie: (getting serious) But things with you and Joey are getting out of hand.
Pacey: (defensive) Its not like that.
Bessie: I just dont want to see her give up her life, and dreams for you.
Pacey: Id never want her to do that.
Bessie: I know that Pacey, but its happening. She hasnt even taken her SATs yet. Her scores will barely get in time for her to apply to college.
Pacey hangs his head.
Bessie: She loves you so much Pacey. Its holding her back. She can do so much with her life. Anything she wants, but shes so absorbed with you that shes losing sight of that.
Pacey: (sadly) I never wanted to hold her back.
Bessie: Then dont.
Pacey nods his head. He starts to back away from the door.
Pacey: Thanks Bessie.
Bessie: If you need a place to stay you can sleep on the couch.
Pacey: Thanks, but Im back at Dougs.
Bessie: Okay, the offers always open.
Pacey: I appreciate it.
Bessie: Bye Pacey.
Pacey turns around, and he walks away.
Fade out...
Act 2
Int. Dougs Apartment (Day 1)
Pacey walks into the apartment.
Pacey: (shouting) Is it safe to come in?
Doug walks out from the kitchen and glares at Pacey.
Doug: The couch is all yours again.
Pacey: (sarcastically) Lucky me.
Pacey flops down on the couch, and he puts his feet on the table.
Doug: (shouting) FEET.
Pacey drops his feet with a mischievous grin.
Doug: Im glad you find my life amusing.
Pacey: I try.
Doug: (serious) Unfortunately I dont find your life as amusing. Mr. Milo called today.
Pacey: (sitting up) What did I do now?
Doug: Its what you didnt do little brother. You havent taken your SATs.
Pacey: (leaning back onto the couch) Oh that. I thought it was something important.
Doug: That is important.
Pacey: (dismissively) Theyre this Saturday.
Doug: Have you studied?
Pacey: Its multiple choice, or should I say multiple guess. Ill be fine.
Doug: Pace with this attitude youre not going to get into college.
Pacey stands up.
Pacey: Your brotherly concern is touching really, but its unnecessary.
Doug: I just want to see you make something of your life. To prove everyone wrong.
Pacey: I could go to Harvard. I could become a doctor. Hell I could become President of the United States of America, and certain people will still think Im nothing but a loser.
Doug: Pacey, youre not a loser.
Pacey: Dougie, I know this. All Im saying is Im not out to prove people wrong anymore. The people who matter are the ones who believe in me. Those who dont, well its their loss.
Doug: I believe in you Pacey.
Pacey: (with a huge grin) Thanks Dougie. (pause) Did Joey call?
Doug: (shaking his head no) Sorry.
Paceys face falls.
Ext. Learys Fresh Fish (Day 1)
Andie walks out of the restaurant. She looks across the street, and her face clouds over. Across the street Daniel and Joey are walking. They are laughing and obviously enjoying each others company. Daniel glances across the street and sees Andie.
Daniel: (calling out) Andie.
Andie smiles, and walks across the street.
Andie: Hey Daniel (pause) Joey.
Joey: (with a nervous smile) Hey Andie.
Daniel: Oh you guys know each other.
Joey: Yeah.
Andie: I didnt know you two knew each other.
Daniel: Its a small town.
Andie: (ignoring Joey) I looked for you at school today.
Daniel: I was around.
Andie: (glancing at Joey) Obviously.
Daniel gets a knowing amused smirk on his face. Joey looks away uncomfortable.
Joey: I have to go. Bye Andie. Ill talk to you later Daniel.
Daniel: Definitely.
Daniel watches Joey leave before returning his attention back to Andie.
Andie: You guys seem rather chummy.
Daniel: Yeah shes a cool girl.
Andie: She has a boyfriend.
Daniel: This I know. That doesnt stop her from being a cool girl.
Andie: Right.
Daniel: So whats the tension between you two about?
Andie: (shocked) What?
Daniel: The tension. It was rather obvious that you guys have issues.
Andie: Oh, well we...I dont know. Its a weird situation.
Daniel: Let me guess. Her boyfriend is your ex.
Andie: (surprised) Howd you know?
Daniel: I have a brain. Its so blatantly obvious.
Andie: Oh.
Daniel: You still love him?
Andie: No (pause) yes (confidently) no.
Daniel: (confused) Right.
Andie smiles weakly.
Daniel: Hows your belly button?
Andie: Still sensitive.
Daniel reaches over and lifts up her shirt.
Daniel: Its not infected though, so thats good. The sensitivity will pass.
Andie: Good.
Daniel suddenly leans in, and kisses Andie. Shes shocked, but kisses him back. He stops almost as abruptly as he started.
Daniel: Gotta go. See ya Andie.
Daniel walks away leaving Andie stunned on the sidewalk.
Int. Learys Fresh Fish
Dawson is helping Gale close the restaurant. Gale is standing at the cash register counting money while Dawson is filling out the paper work.
Gale: Thanks for staying and helping.
Dawson: No problem.
Gale: Hows the movie going?
Dawson: Well besides the money factor the movie is going well.
Gale: How much money are you short?
Dawson: A couple thousand. I have enough for the film, and equipment, but finding actors to work for free, and locations to use for free might be tough.
Gale: Well your father and I could help a little. You know you can use the house, and restaurant.
Dawson: Thanks mom. Andie had the idea that if the restaurant catered the shoot people might be willing to work for free.
Gale: We might be able to arrange something.
Dawson: Thanks mom.
Gale: (stopping) Im so proud of you honey.
Dawson: (looking up) I havent even started the movie yet. You might want to wait till then to decide whether or not youre proud of me.
Gale: Dawson I have always been proud of you. Youre growing up.
Dawson: It had to happen. I couldnt stay your baby forever.
Gale: (sensing the opening) No you couldnt.
Dawson: Its a good thing to. Without a child to take care of, you and dad can spend more time together.
Gale: (a worried look flashes across her face) Yeah. Honey... (she starts)
Dawson: What?
The door opens, and Jen walks in. Gale and Dawson both look over.
Jen: I forgot my history book.
Dawson: Yeah I know. I was going to bring it over when we left.
Jen: Thanks, but Im here now.
Jen sits down on a stool.
Dawson: Ill go get it.
Dawson walks into the back, and Gale returns to counting the money.
Jen: How are you doing Gale?
Gale: Fine, just a little tired. You look troubled, whats wrong?
Jen: Nothing really.
Dawson comes back, and he hands Jen the book.
Jen: Thanks. Mind if I hang out for a while?
Gale: Of course not.
Dawson: Not looking forward to the history homework?
Jen: Not really.
Dawson: How are things with Henry?
Jen gives Dawson a look.
Dawson: Sorry I asked.
Gale: Why dont you kids head out? I can finish up.
Dawson: Are you sure? I can stay.
Gale: Go. Im almost done.
Dawson: Okay thanks.
Gale: Bye Jen.
Jen: Bye Gale.
Dawson and Jen leave, and they start walking towards their homes.
Jen: Your mom looks really tired.
Dawson: I know. I think something is up, but she wont say.
Jen: I hope everythings all right. If she needs help at the restaurant Id help out.
Dawson: Thanks Im sure shed appreciate it. So are you avoiding Grams, or Henry?
Jen: Henry. I told him I had to work today and then do homework. He showed up at work, and hes called three times since Ive been home.
Dawson: Obsessive much?
Jen: I love him. I do, but sometimes I feel like Im suffocating.
Dawson: So tell him that.
Jen: I do, but he takes it personally. Like theres a problem with him.
Dawson: It sounds like there is a problem with him.
Jen: Thanks for the words of wisdom.
Dawson: I was just pointing out that maybe hes not exactly what you want, or need.
Jen: (thoughtfully) Yeah maybe.
Int. McPhees House (Night of Day 1)
Jack picks up the phone in the kitchen, and dials the number.
Jack: Hi Charles. (he listens for a bit) Yeah okay if its a bad time. Talk to you later.
Jack hangs up the phone. Theres a knock on the back door. Jack walks over to the door, and he opens it revealing Joey.
Jack: (surprised) Joey, what brings you here?
Joey: Sorry to just barge in, but do you have minute?
Jack: Of course. Come in.
Jack steps back, and Joey walks into the kitchen.
Jack: Do you want something to drink?
Joey: (shaking her head no) No thanks. Is Andie here?
Jack: (shaking his head no) So whats up?
Joey: Well I was wanting to take this art class they are offering at the community college. Its open to high school students.
Jack: Thats great. You should really do that. Youre really talented.
Joey: Thanks, so are you, which is why Im here. Would you take the class with me?
Jack: (shocked) Go to college?
Joey: Not really college. I mean yes really college, but its just an art class.
Jack: What kind of class?
Joey: Its a survey. To introduce you to all types of mediums. Itll be fun.
Jack: (thinks about it for a minute) Sure why not.
Joey: (with a huge grin) Thanks Jack. Meet me after school tomorrow?
Jack: Ill be there with bells on.
Joey: Great. See ya then.
Joey turns, and she leaves the kitchen.
Int. Capeside High (Day 2)
Andie is at her locker when Dawson walks up to her.
Dawson: Hey Andie.
Andie: (looking over) Dawson hey.
Dawson: Are you free this afternoon?
Andie: Pretty much, why whats up?
Dawson: I just thought we should go over some basic camera and equipment stuff, so youre familiar with it when we start.
Andie: Sounds good.
Dawson: Thanks again for doing this.
Andie: I should be thanking you for the opportunity. Not only will it look good on my college applications, but its also a new experience for me, and Im trying to do new things. Expand my life a little.
Dawson: (surprised) Really? What brought this on?
Andie: Nothing. Im just trying to become a more well rounded person, and well have some fun.
Dawson: Thats great Andie.
Andie: Yeah, it is.
Dawson: So Ill see you after school?
Andie: Yup, Ill be there.
Dawson: Great see you then.
Dawson walks away, and Andie pulls a book out of her locker. A pair of hands wrap around her eyes.
Daniel: (whispering in her ear) Guess who?
A big smile forms on Andies face.
Andie: Gavin Rossdale??
Daniel: Someone better.
Andie: Theres someone better than Gavin Rossdale?
Daniel: (laughing) Lucky for you there is.
Andie: Hey Daniel.
Daniel removes his hands, and Andie turns around to face him.
Daniel: So you like British guys?
Andie: Sexy musician guys.
Daniel: (putting his arm around her shoulders) Is that why you like me?
Andie: (faking shock) I like you?
Daniel: (leaning over to whisper in her ear) Come on you know you do.
Andie shivers and the bell rings.
Daniel: Ill catch up with you later.
Daniel takes off leaving Andie in the hallway to stare after him.
Int. Mr. Milos Office Capeside High (Day 2)
Joey is sitting across the desk from Mr. Milo. He has her file in front of him.
Mr. Milo: So Joey, what are you plans for after High School?
Joey: Well, Im not exactly sure as of right now. I mean Im going to college. Im sure about that. I just havent decided whether to go to art school, or a regular college.
Mr. Milo: Will you be studying art whichever you go to?
Joey: Yes. I plan to.
Mr. Milo: Thats great Joey. Have you narrowed down your college choices?
Joey: (feeling guilty) I havent really looked into it yet.
Mr. Milo: Joey, youre a talented, intelligent girl. Your future is bright, and you have many options, but the longer you wait the less options you have. You need a scholarship, as Im sure you are aware of.
Joey: I know.
Mr. Milo: You can get a scholarship with no problem, but you have to apply early. You have already missed out on some scholarships by not taking your SATs already.
Joey: (guilty) Im sorry.
Mr. Milo: Dont apologize to me. Its your future Joey. You have to decide what you want, and then you have to do it. Im here to help in any way I can, but ultimately the responsibility lies with you.
Joey: I know.
Mr. Milo: Ill compile a folder of brochures for art schools for you.
Joey: (relieved) Thank you.
Mr. Milo: Also, you might want to take an art class at the community college.
Joey: I was actually going to do that. I start today.
Mr. Milo: Good. Whatever distracted you Joey dont let it make you lose sight of your goals, and dreams.
Joey: (flinches) I wont.
Mr. Milo: Good luck on those SATs on Saturday. I know youll do well.
Joey: (standing up) Thank you.
Fade out...
ACT 3
Ext. Capeside High (Day 2)
Jen and Jack are sitting under a tree eating lunch.
Jen: This is nice.
Jack: It is.
Jen: Since schools started we dont spend nearly enough time hanging out just you and me.
Jack: Things have been rather hectic lately, and are going to get worse now that Joey has me taking that art class.
Jen: (curiously) Art class?
Jack: Joey came over last night, and she asked if I would take an art class with her at the community college.
Jen: Thats great Jack. I always wondered why you stopped drawing.
Jack: I dont know. So much just happened that drawing seemed to be wasting my time, but now Im really looking forward to getting back into it again.
Jen: (kind of sad) Thats great.
Jack: But Ill always have time for you. So whats up? You seem kind of sad.
Jen: Well Im not really sad just perplexed.
Jack: (focusing his attention on Jen) Perplexed?
Jen: Yeah.
Jack: About Henry?
Jen: Partly.
Jack: Whats the other part?
Jen: Well everyone has something. I mean you and Joey are taking an art class. Dawson has his movie, and well Andie has had her life path chosen since kindergarten. Then theres me. I have no idea what I want to do when high school is over. I have no hobbies, no talents, no interests, or lofty ambitions.
Jack: (surprised by her answer) Wow, youve given this a lot of thought.
Jen: Lately I have. Im just not sure what Im good at.
Jack: Youre good at a lot of things Jen.
Jen: Name one.
Jack: Youre a great friend, and while that may not be a career option it does highlight some of your talents.
Jen: Explain further.
Jack: (ticking them off on his fingers) Youre a good listener, a caring person, dedicated, loyal, good at giving advice, and helping people through their problems.
Jen: So youre saying I should be a counselor?
Jack: Im not saying that. Im saying you have talents, and you could do anything you wanted.
Jen: What if I wanted to be a lounge singer. (Jen bursts out into song, which she sings quite badly) I love you baby, and if its quite all right I need you baby
Jack: (cringing) Well almost anything.
Jen laughs, and lays her head on his shoulder.
Jen: I just dont know what I want to do.
Jack: Neither do I really, but we have time to figure it out.
Int. Mr. Milos Office (Day 2)
Andie is sitting across from Mr. Milo.
Mr. Milo: I read over your personal essay Andie, and I think its fine.
Andie: Is it just fine, or is Harvard fine? Cause I really need it to stand out, and be more than just fine, cause Harvard has really high standards, and if I want to get in I have to exceed those standards.
Mr. Milo: It is one of the best personal essays I have read. I think you deal well with your familys situation, as well as explaining your own hardships, and how theyve made you a stronger person.
Andie: It doesnt seem like Im playing the sympathy card, because I wrote a version without mentioning my illness.
Mr. Milo: Its up to you Andie, but I think the essay you had me read will work just fine in getting you into Harvard.
Andie: (sighing) Okay. About my recommendation I asked you for.
Mr. Milo: Im working on it now, and will send it to the schools you have requested. Im very impressed with your dedication Andie. Not many students start this early on applications.
Andie: The early bird catches the worm, or so they say.
Mr. Milo: (standing up) You have a bright future Andie.
Andie: (standing up as well) Thank you, Mr. Milo.
Andie walks to the door followed by Mr. Milo.
Mr. Milo: Any more questions you have, or concerns dont hesitate to come see me.
Andie: I wont.
Andie opens the door, and walks out.
Andie: Bye Mr. Milo.
Mr. Milo: Goodbye Andie.
Andie walks away, and pauses as Pacey walks right towards her.
Andie: (with a smile) Pacey, hi.
Pacey: (a little uncomfortable) Hey Andie.
Andie: How are you?
Pacey: Good, you?
Andie: Im doing good.
Pacey: (smiling) Thats great. (nodding towards Mr. Milos office) Is everything okay?
Andie: Yeah, just preparing for college application time.
Pacey: Right. You always did look forward to that.
Andie: I still do.
Mr. Milo: (coming out of his office) Mr. Witter, do you have a minute?
Pacey: (rolling his eyes) Wonder what I did now?
Andie laughs lightly.
Andie: See ya Pacey.
Pacey: Yeah, good luck with those applications.
Andie: Thanks you too.
Paceys face clouds over slightly before he heads towards Mr. Milos office.
Pacey: Mr. Milo, whatever it is I swear I didnt do it.
Mr. Milo: I know Pacey, and thats what I wanted to talk to you about.
Pacey has a look of confusion on his face as he follows Mr. Milo into his office.
Mr. Milo: Take a seat.
Pacey sits down, and faces Mr. Milo across his desk nervously.
Mr. Milo: You havent taken your SATs yet Pacey.
Pacey: (relieved) Oh that. Im taking them this Saturday.
Mr. Milo: Do you feel prepared?
Pacey: Sure.
Mr. Milo: Are you planning on going to college, Pacey?
Pacey: (stammering) Yeah, of course. I havent really given it much thought but sure.
Mr. Milo: What would you like to study?
Pacey: Have no clue.
Mr. Milo: Youve always been a live in the moment type of guy Pacey. I understand that, but some things require advance planning, and preparation like college.
Pacey: I know.
Mr. Milo: Ive talked to your teachers.
Pacey: (groaning) Oh no.
Mr. Milo: They say your grades are not bad, but not good either. Youre pulling a solid C in all your classes.
Pacey: (impressed) Really?
Mr. Milo: You could do better.
Pacey: (shrugging) Yeah, well.
Mr. Milo: I talked to your brother last night.
Pacey: Thats just great.
Mr. Milo: He mentioned you took a sailing trip all summer with your girlfriend.
Pacey: Yeah.
Mr. Milo: Was it fun?
Pacey: (with a smile) The best time of my life.
Mr. Milo: Wish you were still sailing huh?
Pacey: Yeah most of the time.
Mr. Milo: But your not. Youre in school, and Id like to see you focus.
Pacey: Its hard sometimes.
Mr. Milo: I realize that, but Pacey I may be out of line here, but Joey needs to focus. She has an incredible opportunity to go away to a very good school on scholarship if she would just focus her attention on it.
Pacey: (pain crosses his face) I know.
Mr. Milo: And it appears, at least to me, that her focus lately has been on you, and not her school work.
Pacey: (defensively) I dont mean to do that.
Mr. Milo: I know. What Im trying to say is you may be the person in the best position to push her, to make her focus.
Pacey doesnt say anything.
Mr. Milo: Anytime you need to talk Pacey. Im here.
Pacey: Im fine, thank you.
Mr. Milo nods his head.
Pacey stands up, and he leaves the office.
Int. Jens House (Day 2)
Grams is sitting at the kitchen table reading the mail. Jen walks in through the kitchen door.
Grams: Hello Jennifer. How was school today?
Jen: It was school.
Jen walks around to the other side of the table.
Grams: (smiling up at her) Something came in the mail for you today.
Grams hands Jen an envelope. Jen takes it curiously, and looks at the return address from Henry Parker before sighing and collapsing into the chair across from Grams.
Grams: (concerned) Whats wrong?
Jen: Nothing Grams.
Grams: Its sweet of Henry to send you a letter. Very romantic, dont you agree?
Jen: (not very convincing) Yeah.
Grams: Are you having problems with Henry?
Jen: Yes, and no. Hes just so smothering sometimes.
Grams: He loves you.
Jen: I know.
Grams: Jennifer, I dont want to stick my nose in where it doesnt belong, but sometimes in a relationship you have to put forward your partners needs before your own.
Jen: I realize this Grams, and I try, but in the same respect Henry needs to heed that advice.
Grams: Of course. It goes both ways, and you should have an honest talk with him.
Jen: (standing up) Thanks Grams.
Grams smiles at Jen as she heads up stairs. On her way up the stairs Jen opens the letter from Henry. The letters contents are read in a voice over by Henry.
Henry: (VO) Dear Jen, The other night was amazing. I didnt think it was possible to love you anymore than I already did, but now I know that I can love you ten times more. (Jen walks into her room) You are the best thing to ever happen in my life, and I dont know what Id do if we were ever not together. I wake up, and my first thoughts are of you. I think about you ever second of the day, and when I go to sleep I dream of you. I know now without any doubt that we were meant to be together, and will be together forever. Love with all my heart, Henry Parker.
Jen sighs, and tosses the letter on her desk. She takes a few deep breaths before lying on her bed, and curling up into a protective ball.
Ext. Leery House (Day 2)
Dawson and Andie are out front messing around with the camera equipment.
Dawson: See its not really hard.
Andie: Nope. I think I got it.
Dawson: You know Im really enjoying working on my film with you.
Andie: We really havent started working on the film yet.
Dawson: I know, but we never hung out just the two of us before, and I just wanted to say I enjoy your company.
Andie: I do too Dawson.
Dawson: (With a relieved smile) Good.
Andie: (hesitates before nervously saying) I talked to Pacey today.
Dawson: (he flinches) Yeah.
Andie: (nodding) The only reason I brought it up was because Dawson Im really over him. I didnt feel the usual pang of sadness, or get flooded with memories.
Dawson: (smiling) Thats great Andie.
Andie: Have you talked to Joey?
Dawson: (looking away) No, not since her ultimatum.
Andie: Dawson, it wasnt an ultimatum. I hate to say it but shes right. You cant be friends if you dont accept her and Pacey. Dont you still want to be friends?
Dawson: More than anything.
Andie: Then make the first move Dawson.
Dawson contemplates what Andie just said.
Ext. Capeside Community College (Day 2)
Jack and Joey walk out of their art class. They are both holding drawings that they did.
Joey: So what did you think?
Jack: Im glad you talked me into this.
Joey: So am I. You might have found your calling yet.
Jack: I dont know about that, but Im looking forward to the computer graphics portion of the class.
Joey: Ugh computers. I'll leave the technological portion of the class to you. Im more suited for the pen and paper portion.
Jack: (taking her drawing from her hand) This is really good.
Joey: You think?
Daniel: (from behind them) I know I do.
Joey whips around in surprise.
Joey: Daniel.
Daniel: (laughing at her surprise) Hey Joey.
Joey: What are you doing here?
Daniel: I have a music class.
Joey: Right.
Jack nudges Joey.
Joey: Oh sorry. Jack this is Daniel.
Jack gets a look of surprised recognition. Daniel holds out his hand, and they shake.
Daniel: Nice to meet you Jack.
Jack: You to. You know my sister Andie, dont you?
Daniel: Youre Andies brother?
Jack: Yeah.
Daniel: Cool. (He takes Joeys drawing from Jack) This is really good, Joey.
Joey: (lowering her head) Thanks.
Daniel: Let me guess this would be Pacey the boyfriend.
Joey: Yeah.
Daniel: Attractive fella.
Joey: I know.
Jack: (jokingly) Yeah hes a looker.
Joey punches Jack lightly in the arm.
Daniel: One day Ill have to actual meet this guy cause as of right now Im starting to think he doesnt exist.
Joey: Why?
Daniel: Youre never with him.
Joey: Oh, well things have been hectic lately. We havent had time.
Daniel: Thats unfortunate for him.
Noticing the flirting element of their conversation, Jack gives them a strange look.
Daniel: (looking at his watch) I have to get going. It was nice meeting you Jack. Tell Andie I said hi.
Jack: I will.
Daniel: Ill talk to you later Joey.
Joey: Bye.
Daniel walks off, and Jack turns to Joey.
Jack: What was that about?
Joey: What was what?
Jack: The guy was flirting with you like crazy.
Joey: (shrugging) I didnt notice.
Jack: (not believing her) Right.
Joey: (in a warning tone) Jack.
Jack: (with an amused grin) Im not saying anything more.
Joey: Thank you. I have to get back to the B&B.
Jack: See ya Joey.
Joey: Bye Jack.
Joey walks away, and Jack looks around. His eyes fall on Charles across the campus. A smile forms on his lips, and he walks over to him.
Jack: Charles.
Charles: (looking up shocked) Jack, what are you doing here?
Jack: Im taking an art class with a friend.
Charles: Oh.
Jack: Ive been wanting to talk to you.
Charles: I know. Sorry about that. Ive just been busy. (looking at his watch) And now I have to go. Well talk later Jack, I promise.
Jack: (hurt and confused) Okay.
Charles: (giving him an apologetic smile) Sorry.
Jack: Its okay. Talk to you later.
Charles leaves, and Jack sighs.
Ext. Docks (Night of Day 2)
Jen is leaning on a railing staring out into the water. She hears footsteps behind her, and turns around to find Pacey walking towards her. He leans next to her on the railing.
Pacey: Hey Lindley.
Jen: Pace, why so blue?
Pacey: Is it that obvious?
Jen: You wear your heart on your sleeve.
Pacey: Lucky me. Youre not looking too perky yourself, whats the deal? Young Henry giving you troubles?
Jen: Nice subject change.
Pacey: I tried.
They stare out at the water in silence for a while.
Jen: Remember sophomore year when Abby put us through hell over that note you wrote?
Pacey: (nodding) Thanks for bringing that up.
Jen: Sorry, but what you said, Sex changes everything just about sums up my problems.
Pacey: So I take it that you have taken that leap with Henry?
Jen nods.
Pacey: And the problem is everythings changed?
Jen: I thought that by sleeping with Henry it would show him that I loved him.
Pacey: And it didnt?
Jen: Well I suppose it has, but its also made him very clingy.
Pacey: Ahhh that tends to happen.
Jen: I know, but never to me. Sex was never this confirmation of love in my past. It was fun.
Pacey: It wasnt fun with Henry?
Jen: No it was, but now Im feeling smothered, and overwhelmed.
Pacey: (putting his arm around her) Talk to him Jen. Tell him your fears. You might just find that he understands.
Jen: (smiling) Now why didnt I think of that.
Pacey chuckles.
Jen: Your turn Witter. Whats got you down?
Pacey: (turning serious) Im Henry.
Jen: (her eyes widen) What are you saying? Did you and Joey... (her voice trails off)
Pacey: (shaking his head) No, not that, but Im smothering her. Im holding her back.
Jen: Pace thats not true.
Pacey: Yes it is. Because she went with me this summer, she never took her SATs. Now shes behind with the whole college thing.
Jen: She chose to go with you.
Pacey: But I should be encouraging her in her dreams, not holding her back. I never thought that my love was holding her back, but it is.
Jen: Pacey (she pulls him into a hug) Have you talked to Joey?
Pacey: No.
Jen: (pulling away) Maybe you should, because Im sure youll find that she doesnt think you are holding her back. In fact, I think youll find that she thinks you make her life better.
Pacey doesnt answer.
Fade out...
ACT 4
Int. Potter B&B (Night of Day 2)
Joey is sitting at the desk in her room. Books are open all around her, and shes concentrating really hard on her work. Theres a knock on her door, and she looks up surprised.
Joey: Come in.
The door opens, and Pacey slowly walks in.
Pacey: Hey Potter.
Joey: (looking up in surprise) Pacey.
Pacey: (walking slowly into the room) Studying for the SATs?
Joey: Yeah. I put it off for so long.
Pacey: Im sorry.
Joey: Its not your fault, Pacey.
Pacey: Yes it is at least partially.
Joey: No its not. Stop talking like that.
Pacey: Jo...
Joey: No listen to me Pacey. I make my own choices, my own decisions. Im not the same girl anymore that let other people dictate the course of my life. I went with you this summer of my own free will. I knew the consequences, and I am accepting the repercussions. I dont regret any of it Pacey, and I dont think of our relationship as a hindrance to the rest of my life. (she stands up, and places her hand on the side of Paceys face) You are the best thing in my life.
Pacey: (leaning his head into her hand) Thank you.
Joey: (using both hands to hold his face) Thank you for giving me something else to live for besides dreams of leaving Capeside.
Pacey leans his forehead against Joeys, and they stay this way in silence. Finally, Pacey breaks the silence.
Pacey: (standing back up straight) Hows the studying going?
Joey: Surprisingly well. Hanging out with Dawson for all those years really did wonders to my vocabulary.
Pacey: (laughing lightly) Well, he was good for something.
Joey gives him a little smile.
Joey: So everything is okay between us, right Pacey?
Pacey: Yeah. Its how it should be.
Joey leans in, and they share a soft, sweet kiss.
Joey: I should get back to studying, and so should you.
Pacey: Right.
Joey: Pacey you are studying right?
Pacey: You know me Jo I was never a boy scout.
Joey: Pace...
Pacey: Jo, Ill leave the overachieving to you. Ill be fine. I always manage. If Ive learned one thing in life it is how to take care of myself, but if you ever need time to study, or do your art, or just to be alone tell me. The last thing I ever want to do is hold you back.
Joey: I will, and Pacey, you dont hold me back.
Pacey: (nodding his head with a small smile) Ill see ya later Jo.
Joey: I love you Pacey.
Pacey: (a grin breaking onto his face) I love you Potter.
Joey grins, and Pacey gives her a quick kiss on the cheek before leaving the room. Joey stares at the closed door deep in thought.
Ext. Capeside High (Day 3)
Jack is sitting at a table writing in a notebook. Daniel comes up, and he sits next to him.
Daniel: Hey Jack.
Jack: (looking up) Daniel right?
Daniel: Yeah, Joeys friend. I know this may be out of line, but I like your sister.
Jack: Andie?
Daniel: You have another sister?
Jack: No, its just yesterday you seemed pretty taken with Joey.
Daniel: (laughing) Yeah, I like Joey. Shes a cool girl. Nothing more if you know what I mean?
Jack: Good, she has a boyfriend.
Daniel: I know.
Jack: So Andie?
Daniel: Right Andie. Im just wondering if shes over this Pacey guy. I like her, but Im not really into playing second fiddle, you know.
Jack: Understandable, but you should talk to her about it.
Daniel: Yeah, youre right.
Jack: She likes you though. Dont hurt her. Shes been hurt enough.
Daniel: The inevitable big brother warning.
Jack: Sorry.
Daniel: No, I respect that.
Andie walks up.
Andie: You guys know each other?
Jack: (looking towards her) Yeah, we ran into each other yesterday.
Andie: Oh.
Daniel: (looking at his watch) Andie can I catch up with you later. Im late to meet Mr. Milo.
Andie: Sure.
Daniel: Great. See ya Jack.
Jack: Later.
Andie sits down next to Jack.
Andie: So what were you two talking about?
Jack: (shrugging) Nothing much.
Andie: Jack.
Jack: Andie.
Andie: Tell me. Do you think he likes me?
Jack: (seriously) Yeah I do, but be careful with him.
Andie: (curiously) Why do you say that?
Jack: I just dont want you to get hurt.
Andie: Thanks Jack, but Im a big girl.
Int. Capeside High (Day 3)
Jen is trying to open her locker, but having a difficult time with it. Henry walks up behind her, and turns the combination. He yanks up on it, and her locker opens. Jen looks up at Henry, and she smiles.
Jen: Thanks.
Henry: No problem. (pausing) Jen are you avoiding me?
Jen: What?
Henry: Im just confused is all. (lowering his voice) I mean we made love, and now you are giving me the cold shoulder.
Jen: I dont mean to give you the cold shoulder, Henry. Its just a lot has happened, and Im trying to process it all.
Henry: Do you regret it?
Jen: No of course not. Im just feeling emotions I havent ever felt and they are scaring me.
Henry: They scare me too.
Jen: I know, but for me its different. Its against everything Ive done before, and been before. Its not just a new feeling. Its a feeling that is in direct opposition to every feeling Ive ever had before.
Henry: But things with me are different, right?
Jen: Yes, and thats why it scares me.
Henry: What can I do to put your fears to rest? Ill do anything.
Jen: Thats just it Henry. Theres nothing you can do, but not push me.
Henry: Okay. So what now?
Jen: I dont know. Just give me some space.
Henry: (getting frustrated) Jen all you ever want is space. What about me? I want to be with you.
Jen: (in a warning tone) Henry.
Henry: No hear me out. Im always bending over backwards to accommodate what you need, and ignoring my feelings to cater to yours. Jen, I need you. I really need you, and you are constantly pushing me away.
Jen: Henry, its not like that.
Henry: Then prove it to me. Prove to me that what I need matters to you.
Jen: What do you want from me?
Henry: Your time. Can you give me that?
Jen thinks about what he just asked.
Henry: (impatient) I guess not.
Henry turns, and he walks away.
Jen: (calling after him) Parker.
Henry doesnt turn around.
Int. Learys House (Night of Day 3)
Mitch and Gale are sitting at the kitchen table.
Mitch: I can quit my teaching job, and take over the restaurant.
Gale: No Mitch. Youve finally found what you are good at, and I wont take that away. Ill manage.
Mitch: Gale the further along you get the harder its going to be. Not to mention when you have the baby.
Gale: I have Dawson, and the rest of the staff. I can always hire someone to take over when I have the baby.
Mitch: Gale, its Learys Fresh Fish. I dont have to quit teaching. I could work the restaurant at nights and on weekends.
Gale: And when will you have time for me, Dawson, and the baby?
Mitch: (defeated) Well think of something. (reaching across to grasp her hand) We have time.
The front door slams shut, and then Dawson appears in the door of the kitchen.
Dawson: Hey guys.
Mitch: (looking over to the door) Hey Dawson.
Gale: Hi Honey, how was work?
Dawson: The usual. (holding up a videotape) I brought home research.
Mitch: Hows the movie going?
Dawson: Good. Itll be even better if I work out the funding problem.
Gale: Im sure you will think of something.
Dawson: Im hoping. Everyones really coming through for me, so I have no doubt together well find away to make this movie.
Mitch and Gale smile at their son.
Dawson: Ill talk to you guys later.
Dawson walks out of the kitchen.
Gale: Hes had such a rough time lately its good to see him smile.
Mitch: Yes it is. I think hes finally put the whole Pacey and Joey drama behind him.
Gale: Yes, he doesnt need anything else shaking up his life.
Mitch: Gale, we have to tell him.
Gale: I know.
Mitch: Were acting like this is bad news. Remember when Dawson was little, and hed ask us why he didnt have a brother like Pacey did?
Gale nods.
Mitch: He always wanted a brother, or sister Gale. This is happy news. Im sure hell be happy for us, and for himself.
Gale: I hope youre right Mitch.
Int. Dawsons Bedroom (Night of Day 3)
Dawson is standing in his room holding the movie. He looks at the title Stealing Beauty. He glances at the phone, and hesitates before picking it up. He dials a number.
Dawson: Hey Jack, is Andie there? (pause) Shes not. (pause) No its not important. Ill talk to her in school tomorrow.
Dawson hangs up the phone, and sighs. He opens the movie, and slides it into the VCR. He flops down on his bed to watch the movie alone.
Ext. Streets of Capeside (Night of Day 3)
Daniel and Andie are walking down the street.
Daniel: I just dont see the point is all. I mean movies are okay and all, but wouldnt you rather live life than see life captured on film?
Andie: Its not about avoiding life. I mean its the same as with music. You use music as a medium to express what you are feeling. With a movie its directing what you are feeling into a fantasy. The situations may be contrived, but the emotions are real. (with a laugh) and God do I sound like Dawson.
Daniel: (confused) Dawson?
Andie: A friend of mine. The one Im working with on the movie.
Daniel: Oh okay.
Daniel stops suddenly, and he pulls Andie into the store they were passing by.
Andie: What are you doing?
They enter the store. Its a music store.
Daniel: You said you wanted to hear me play.
Andie: (looking around) Here?
Daniel: (with a shrug) Why not?
Daniel leads her to the back where there is a piano. He sits down, and Andie looks at him with shock.
Andie: You play the piano?
Daniel: (with a grin) Yeah. What did you expect? The drums?
Andie: Kind of.
Daniel: Well for the record I play those too, but I prefer the piano. Any requests?
Andie: Beethoven?
Daniel: (giving her a look) Just so you know, I can play the fifth, but Im choosing not to.
Daniel focuses on the piano and starts playing the Moonlight Sonata. Andie listens in wonder as he continues to play.
Ext. Capeside High (Saturday Morning)
Joey walks towards the front door where Pacey is waiting. When Joey sees him she smiles.
Joey: Are you ready?
Pacey: As ready as Ill ever be. You?
Joey: Im nervous.
Pacey: Youll do fine. I know you will.
Joey: (smiles, and holds out her hand) Shall we?
Pacey takes her hand and they walk into the school.
Ext. Capeside High (Saturday Morning)
Pacey is leaning against the wall of the school. The front door opens, and Joey walks out. Pacey pushes off the wall, and he walks over to her.
Pacey: How do you think you did?
Joey: Pacey did you even read the questions, or did you just bubble them in randomly?
Pacey: Well C is the most common answer.
Joey: (shouting) Pacey!
Pacey: Im kidding Jo. It wasnt too hard, just long, and I really didnt need to read that passage about the mating rituals of the African Beetle.
Joey: I thought any passage about sex would interest you.
Pacey: (wrapping his arms around her) Ive grown up. Sex with you is the only thing that interests me.
Joey smiles.
Pacey: (whispering in her ear) Come on Ive got a surprise for you.
Joey: Why am I scared all of a sudden?
Pacey: Cause youre a prude.
Joey: Pervert.
They share a laugh, and Pacey leads her off.
Ext. Docks by True Love (Saturday)
Pacey and Joey are walking towards True Love hand in hand.
Joey: Shes back?
Pacey: Yup.
Joey: (turning to wrap her arms around Pacey) Want to recapture the magic of this summer?
Pacey: (smiling) I dont need True Love to make me feel that magic. Whenever youre near me I feel it.
Joey leans in and kisses him. They pull apart.
Joey: I feel it too.
Pacey: The first time I felt it was when I brought you to her the first time. Do you remember that?
Joey: (smiling at the memory) How could I forget? It seemed like such an impossibility at the time.
Pacey: What? You and me?
Joey: Well I meant the boat, but yeah you and me too.
Pacey: I didnt know what the feeling was at the time.
Joey: When did you know?
Pacey: (looking down) When I brought Andie here. Afterwards I just knew that true love was meant for you, and not her.
Joey: (surprised) Oh.
Pacey: When did you know?
Joey: (without even thinking) When Andie told me you guys were getting back together.
Pacey: (shocked by her answer) What?
Joey: I didnt let myself think about it, but I was jealous. Just like I was jealous with Jen. It was so confusing what I was feeling that I pushed it away, but then you kissed me, and I couldnt ignore it anymore. I didnt really want to ignore it.
Pacey waits a moment to process what she just said. A huge grin breaks out onto his face.
Pacey: You liked me first.
Joey: (shocked and angry) What?
Pacey: (teasing her) You just admitted it. You liked me first.
Joey: Bite me Pacey.
Pacey leans down, and he nips her neck. Joey slaps his arm as he laughs.
Pacey: Have I told you how much I love you?
Joey: (smiling) Yes, but I never get tired of hearing it.
Pacey: I love you.
Joey: I love you too.
Fade out...
