http://www.angelfire.com/retro2/lisa/10s.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1910s http://history1900s.about.com/od/1910s/ ApplicationSend all applications to "clytem at gmail.com" Part I: YouName: Just give your name, or what you want to be called. Email address: So we can contact you. IM: Include any IM you may have, such as AIM, MSN, or YIM. Not required. Part II: Character InformationCharacter Name: Please be sensible! Selena Moonstar DragonPrincess is not a good name. Try to keep in mind the canon naming style, as well as the time period. Job: Ministry worker, teacher, student, etc. Include any status they may have politically. Age/Birthday: It is pretty self explanatory, but you should be reasonable. A five year old is not likely to have much bearing on the game, and probably wouldn’t be fun to play. Similarly, try not to make your character a prodigy, or a genius at a young age. Likes: Don’t choose stupid and obvious likes. Pretty much everyone likes to breathe, eat and sleep. Unless your character has an even greater emotional attachment to them, don’t mention them. Obviously, technology and computers would be out of place considering the time, as well as culture. Dislikes: Same as likes, be reasonable and specific. Don’t just say that your character dislikes “evil.” Well, duh. Nobody likes evil to their relative point of view. Instead, perhaps mention something they have a phobia of, or something that really irks them. Hobbies: Don’t rewrite your likes into verb form! Be sure to include original, realistic hobbies. Somebody who loves animals may enjoy breeding puffskeins. Perhaps your hobbies are more normal, such as singing opera. Try not to do something too bland. Appearance: Be specific without going overboard. Try to avoid purple prose, but don’t just say “Tall, blonde, pretty.” Be sure to mention their style of clothing. As with all other sections, keep the time period in mind. This is the early 1900s, not 2005. Personality: Everyone has their own little problems and mental disorders. Don’t just say, “Sally is nice.” Say something like, “Although Sally gives off a sweet facade, she can often be foolish in her compassion. Often, she will help others at the cost of her own success.” History: You don’t have to be too specific, but don’t just say, “John is a pureblood.” Not all pureblood households are the same. Be sure to mention what their childhood was like, if they completed school, if they attended a Muggle school, etc. Also be sure to mention any traumatic events that may have shaped their personality. NPCs: While optional, this section can become very important. You can include relatives, best friends, etc. These people can become important plot devices. Just be sure not to let them take over your character. Part III: Writing SampleBe detailed! This is where you can be judged. Use your creativity. You have several options: 1) If you are a student, write out your Sorting. What sort of thoughts and anxieties did your character have? 2) Write out a “day in the life” type of scene. Show a sequence of events that occurs commonly for your character. If a student, perhaps detail them studying or lack thereof. For a Ministry worker, you can talk about their commute to work, or how they get along at their job. There’s plenty of potential for this. 3) Another very good option, you can write about the event that made your character pick a side of the conflict, or what convinced them to stay neutral. |
