Loss of Appetite:
Several things may factor into your fish's lack of interest in food. If there are no other signs, observe
your tank and look for these things :
water quality and clarity is poor
fish is struggling to breathe, lack of adequate oxygen in the tank
the fish is getting picked on by others
the food is not specifically designed for that species of fish
If none of these effects your fish, keep a close eye on the fish for external signs to appear. If none
appear, your fish may have an internal problem, (infection, tumor...) and you will have to consult a
veterinarian.
Parasitic Possibility:
Flukes
These parasites will cause a very noticeable loss of color. If they reach the gills, the fish will surface
frequently for air. Rubbing may occur. Use a salt water bath to rid your fish of these parasites.
Prepare your salt water (2 tablespoons/gallon), put about one gallon (or more if you have an
exceptional large fish) of tank water in a clean bucket and place your fish in it as a holding tank.
Add the salt water to the holding bucket. Let fish rest under constant supervision for 5 minutes and
return fish only to tank. Add stress coat to water upon return to ease the shock.
