Pet
Quality
Pet Quality kittens/cat are the same healthy kittens as Show
Quality kittens, but are not qualified for show competition
for one or more reasons. These reasons have to do mainly with
esthetics, as to how the kitten conforms to breed standards
of perfection, such as size or placement of the ears, the length
of the body, color or pattern, etc. These slight imperfections
are rarely apparent to the untrained observer.
Breeder Show Quality
This is probably a kitten that the Breeder feels would not shine
in the show ring, but that has enough good features that place
it just under Show Quality. It's an "almost" Show
Quality kitten. Sometimes this designation is determined by
temperament rather than looks. A kitten too shy to enjoy showing,
might make a wonderful pet in the right home.
Show
Quality
It is important to note that "Show Quality" means,
"to the best of the Breeder's knowledge at the time of
purchase", since kittens do not always develop as expected.
However, Show Quality means the Breeder feels that the kitten
has the temperament and close confirmation to the breed standard
that is required in the show ring.
Show Alter
A beginner is not often given the opportunity to purchase a
Show or Top Show Quality kitten. Many breeders have more males
than they can keep and will offer them as Show Alters. These
are bargains for the beginner interested in showing. Generally
they are kittens with good show temperaments and conformation.
Breeders will usually be happy to show novices the ropes and
give advice as to grooming, feeding, etc.
Top Show Quality
A Top Show kitten is rarely sold as a pet or even to a beginner
interested in entering the cat fancy. Top show kittens are usually
sold with the agreement that they will be shown a certain amount
and are often "co-owned" with the Breeder. |
