INTRODUCTION
The
bald cats are ones of the rarest in the world. They have been
recently developed. Peterbald share this trait with other breed
of naked cats:
Donskoy
The
Don have in common with Pd that they share the same gene for
the hair-loosing effect. Their baldness is caused by a dominant
Hairloosing Gene .
Dons
differs from PD in only one principal characteristics:
Their
body type: structure and constitution. (Adults have a similar
appearance with the Sphynx).
Sphynx
The
Sphynx differs from PD in two different characteristics:

Their body type (structure and constitution)

Their baldness is caused by different gene "the hairless
gene", that is unrelated to the Pd gene. This gene is recesive.

WHY THE NAME?
The
breed was created by Olga Mironova, author of the name too.
The
basis of breed was consisted of animals obtained in “Saint-Petersburg”
with a special breeding program confirmed by Selection Phelinologics
Federation from 1988.
This
program consisted on introduction of dominant Russian hair-loosing
mutation gene to the genotype of oriental breed.
The
"Peterbald" name got in honor of the founder of Saint
Petersburg = “Peter - The Great”.

Outcrosses: Siamese, Orientals (short and long), Balinese
and Cornish Rex (no longer used).
