OUR PETERBALD BREEDING WORK !!!

Our own WORK

We had started in july 1999 with the arrive of two Peterbald imported from Saint Peterburgs, Russia. They were F2 From the original breding programs of Olga Miranova. They were in two diferent quality of “kind of hair”, in “hairless patern distribution” and type quality. The female was a velour coat restricted to the point (in heterocigousis:HL-hl) and the male was an ultrahairless (by breeder´s word was in Homozigousis: HL-HL).

Our F1 consited in the introdution of the HL gene in our bloodlines. We begun mated the male with all diferents lines of siamese / oriental thet we had and even the female. This F1 worked over Heterocigousis. We had analized the HL gene transmitance and expretion in heterocigousis. Later of same time we used again the PD femalewith the Pd male, over homozigousis of both imported cats. We had the chance to had selected new PDs with better type than imported ones.

Our F2 consited in analize the expretion of HL gene in probably homozigousis. More rigorous selecction over the type and the wanted traits. We could comparate with the previous expretion HL gen in F1.

In our F2 and F3 we work to try to introduce the pointed pattern and the dilutes color genes (chocolate and lilac).

InF3 and , F4 and next we have decided to work only in heterozigousis and we try to achieve the introduction of the earset genepool for position, wide and size. At the same time we continue working on the variably hairless distribution or patterns, the marked “variation of hair kind, Quality and type” and the combination of these both making the diferents kind of coats.

We became to work too with the introduction of the bicolor gene.

As breeders, we always improve our lines with selective breeding and the introduction of more desirable genetic material. By this reason, we will continue also cross them with new extremely lines of Oriental Shorthairs and Siamese cats That situation had included that our Peterbald cats only will be heterozygous (for the Russian hairloosing gene HL-hl) and we did not work in developing homozygous lines like the rest of the catteries, in consecuense, our cats would be crossed with any other Peterbald for homozygosis programs surely (probably) without problems.

All the straight haired kittens are neutered and are no longer being used in breeding programs because they could have the same genetics alleles that given us in the future a same sort of problems or genetic erosion by decreases of gene pool.
