Care
The
Peterbald are not maintenance free. By not having any coat to
look after, you might think that Peterbald does not need any
special care, but there is still some grooming involved. Because,
there is no hair to absorb the oils of the skin, the Peterbald
has to have regular bathing like humans
Bath
Time: To keep their body Peterbald need to be bathed
regularly because their skins still produce oil and dust tends
to stick on them easily. The bath is not difficult as long as
you bathe your pet on a regular basis. Use a shampoo that is
labeled "for cats only." The cats can be very sensitive
to products that are not made for them. Dry them thoroughly
with a towel. Sometimes we use other grooming that consists
in use baby wipes for a quick and effective job in between baths
All
these care from you are a necessary requirement when a Peterbald
lives with you. They adore being clean and although they groom
themselves.
Many
people with allergies find that they can tolerate a Peterbald
cat.
Environment:
Peterbald are "indoor" cats only.
Because of the lack of hair, they will loose temperature or
sunburn easily. When the sun is hot is recommended to let them
outdoors with a protective spray of sunscreen or sun block on.
An indoor temperature that is comfortable for humans is fine
for the Peterbald.
They
like to be warm; keep a blanket out that they can crawl under.
They are clever enough to find a warm spot to occupy when they
feel cold like under the bed covers or on top of the PC´
monitor. They love to be bed partners in winter.
Although
they are very active cats, they are not restless, and can easily
be kept in a flat.
Feeding:
They love fresh water. Keep plenty of fresh water out for the
cats. Feed them a "premium cat food".
This can also be purchased from a pet superstore or vet.

The
Peterbald eats more than normal coated cats because they spend
lots of energy to stay warm and to live their active life. They
will not get fat easily and thus food can be available at all
times. A Peterbald is normally not fussy and will eat almost
anything. Thus they can get upset tummies by eating strange
food.
Vaccinations:
Cats need vaccinations each year. We vaccinate out Peterbald
against Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia.

If
the Peterbald is exposed to a cat that goes outside from time
to time, please consult your veterinarian about vaccinating
against Feline Leukemia and others.
Nails:
you must brush their foot once a week and clean their nails
frequently. Make sure that the nails are trimmed when needed.
This is not difficult.
Ears:
Their ears also require of special attention. Clean the ears
once or twice a week or as needed. Your veterinarian can instruct
you in the proper cleaning procedure. It then can be cleaned
with an ear bud or a q-tip.
Normally
its can looks black and greasy because wax tends to build up
easily in their ears. The reason for that occurs is that they
do not have protective hair inside and they have a much higher
metabolism than normal coated cats. Same vets might think that
your cat has ear mites or fungus. It is though not a good thing
to leave the wax in the ear, because it could be a nice growth
medium for fungi and other ugly bugs
Liquid
Ear cleaning, solutions that loosen the wax can be purchased
from a pet superstore or the veterinarian. After putting a few
drops in the ear, the ear must be rubbed so that the excessive
wax comes loose.
Litter
Box:
The litter box needs to be cleaned everyday. I clean them in
the morning and in the evening and more if necessary. I use
a good clumping litter.
Special
Requirements
Although
one might think that this new breed will have lots of problems
due to inbreeding etc, they are very strong, healthy cats. Peterbald
are super cats to have as companion animals, with this extra
bonus that they do not shed!
