Today
the Peterbald is being bred in many countries and continents,
for example USA and Canada, South-Africa, Australia, Argentina
and then of course Europe and Russia. In each continent, country
and cattery we could found diferrent stiles and qualities in
cats.
The breed was created in 1994, as a result of the breeding program
made by O. Mironova, in Saint-Petersburg. This program had consisted
in the introduction of dominant Donskoy hairlossing mutation
to the phenotype of “Siamese / Oriental Group”.
The donskoy (don) was only used once for the foundation breeding
and never more.
The base of the new breed is formed by the ancestors of the
unique couple: light and elegant Don “Afinogena Myth”
(owner T.Komarova.) and the oriental “Radma von Jagerhov”
(owner O.Mironova). The remarkable offspring of this couple
(Muscat and Mandarin from Murino, Nocturne and Nezhenka from
Murino), the availability of the selecting program of the new
breed was confirmed. In the opinion of the breed's author Olga
Mironova, at least one of the breed ancestors should obligatory
be presented in the pedigrees of all now existing Peterbalds.
Our available breed group in TICA are siamese / oriental and
Donskoy(donsphynx). But our cattery, like any other serious
cattery, will not use donskoy on the breeding programs becousse,
the unique trait interesting from Donskoy (Don) was the hairloossing
gene and it is well fixed and passed in our cats.
First goals of Russian´s breeders
was:

the Donskoy (Don) and from Sphinx.

bloodlines diversity and encrese the genepool.

principal objective was had homozigota cats for the Russian
hairlossing gene, that they born totally bald and they could
never have litters with normal coated kittens.

Our
own goals in our PD Breeding Program
Our
objective of made a breeding program througth selective breeding
is arrive to create a cat in concordance with their breed standard,
our personal taste, as well as our cattery profile with a distinctive
and characteristically appearance, a legitimate and big genetic
pool and good hybrid vigor. It will reforce and retaine the
diferences from other baldcats breeds and it will to achive
that PD be a robust breed, without health problems as like genetics
problems. We wantto made a breed with a higher natality and
lower kittens diseases.
We
had considered that this breed still relatively young, for this
reason; we had bred the past five years for increase the gene
pool and for increase the grade of hairless in heterozigous
and the consistence on legacy of hairless pattern distribution.
We
try to made this with the outcross between PB and our own lines
of Siamese or Oriental Shorthair. We had breed them with very
light-typed cats and we will be continue working for arrive
to our goals.
Our
general goals are

Is
going to made very good temperament for an excellent companion.

going to raise our kittens in an environment that will stimulate
the betterment of the breeds

going to built them stronger and elegant robust.

Is going to made them premier or high quality and really
healthy cats.

going to do not have the more comun problems due to inbreeding
and the heavy inbreeding (morbid genes)*.

Is
going to eliminate (like our Siamese) the marked variation
of typed structure and wedge shaped heads, for have more
consistence litters in type quality.

Is
going to have bigger sized Peterbald, because in other catteries
when they have inbreeding they lose size.
*
it is well noted that there is a high incidence of eyelid disorders
(e.g. drooping, extropion)--it is the breed´s author opinion
at this time that this is the result of the heavy inbreeding
seen in the pedigrees of kittens produced from such breeding
and that there is no specific gene-linked reason explaining
why a homozygous produced from two other homozygous.
Our
major goals are

Is
going to breed Peterbald that stay in heterozygous for the
hairless gene, but they have more high degree of hairlossing
or hairlessness. Such cats that are born very hairless,
and they will produce the same sort of hairless, brush or
normal coated kittens.

Is
going to eliminate the marked “variation of hairlessness
pattern” noted when comparing different cats in the
same litter, for have more consistence litters in the hairless
pattern qualities.

Is
going to select well the “Kind and type of remanent
hair” on adult PD.
