Four totally different seasons (Temperatures)

The first signs of the beginning of winter can be observed in October when the first snowflakes fall. In November, the whole area is wrapped in the white cloak of winter. The soft, powdery snow on the slopes and the thick layer of heavier snow covering the woods entice you into their embrace. Skiing on the wide expanses of lakes covered with ice and in the snowy forests, which the cold air has decorated with hoarfrost, and eating a packed lunch in the warmth of a campfire give rise to magical feelings. During the perpetual darkness of the polar night, the stars and the aurora borealis adorn the sky with bright specks and colourful waves, the soft light of which illuminates the beautifully dusky landscape.

When the sun is freed from the grip of the polar night, it becomes restive and mischievous. It wants to come out and shine after its long exile. Both downhill and cross-country skiing on the bright spring snow are worthwhile experiences. The spring stirs up the rapids and fills them to the brim. The white water challenges you to shoot the rapids in a way that you will never forget. The rapids are renowned for teeming with fish and the surrounding countryside provides the perfect setting for all those who love fishing.

When the summer solstice arrives, it is the sun's turn to rule. It does not set at all in the middle of the summer. It stays high in the sky and illuminates Kuusamo throughout the night. Summer colours all of Kuusamo green and blue. When your canoe glides past the rugged cliffs and verdant spruce woods, you can experience the beauty of summery Kuusamo without tiring yourself. And if you put on your hiking boots, you get to feel the power of nature in your legs.

The most unforgettable hiking trips take place in the autumn when the forests glow with the autumn tints of red and yellow. The multicoloured countryside gives to all hikers a memory that will not be forgotten soon. If you stay overnight in an idyllic log cabin, you get to experience the northern autumn nights in a whole different and special way. The creeping frost in the night, the hoots of the owls and the noises made by other animals turn the night into an experience to write home about. In the kitchen of your cabin, you can effortlessly prepare the delicacies of usamo from the f fish you have caught yourself and the sweet berries and delicious wild mushrooms you can pick on the hiking trips.
