By using KL's
Chinatown as the shooting location, Lomeo
+
Juliet unravels the urban culture
of Petaling St. on film through the lives of the story's characters. The
film depicts familiar characters (pushy hawkers, smart-alec sales attendants,
portly 'nyonyas') in familiar settings.
There'll be blonde-haired
'ah bengs' and tarty-dressed 'ah liens', souped-up Protons, blaring Eiffel
65's 'Blue' and handphone-wielding 'Tai Kohs'. Instead of brandishing swords,
Tybalt and Benvolio wield 'parangs' and cleavers.
The story weaves its way
through streets and back alleys, from the 'kopi tiams' to the karaoke joints
and from the night market to the Buddhist temple.
Though the story of Lomeo
+
Juliet is ultimately driven by the classic plot,
it is the details in the scene that brings the tale to life and engages
the audience visually. |
