The main and
central event of the KLFF is of course, the
movie
screenings themselves. While current consumer trends push the cinema
industry towards larger scale venues, the KLFF tries to re-capture the
atmosphere of movie houses in the 'good ol' days': these days you get these
cineplexes (cinema-complex) boasting more choices and luxury seats, which
is all good and well, but at the expense of intimacy and sense of community.
The KLFF's main screening
venue is the REX Cinema, located at Jalan
Sultan. The 2-house cinema not only provides the KLFF with existing structure
and equipment but also integrates the event with the urban fabric by utilising
an easily identifiable venue. Plus, the name "REX" itself provides the
KLFF with an established cultural icon to associate its image with.
