Pygmalion
When you first saw her, -your best creation- she was stone- unmoved, unmoving.

And you know, in your heart
wherever it is- that she should have remained that way.

But you never met a fire you didnt burn in or a stone you didnt want to smoth- 'cover'.

You have been written off, torn and reassembled, each time a little stronger than the last, but each time a little more coarse and rough-grained.

Her unbreakable stonewall irritated you.

And you set out for a long, slow grind.

To animate stone is a slow process- rock only becomes liquid through extreme heat.

You have no heat to offer.

But you will settle for grinding her down until you can build a suitable fire.

She says little with a cold, slow deliberation.

But each word is another chip flaked away, another spark struck, and you hoard them with a pleasure that is
no longer- entirely sadistic.

On the day she leans, ever so slightly, into your deliberate touch, you feel a heat that is neither lust nor anger.

You want to call it indigestion.

Because why else would you feel ill at that brief spark of trust?

Sometimes you forget your game and realize that you haven't counted the words that you have shared. And you know that she hasn't either because stone is, above all things, loyal- if only because it will not
can not- move.

You pretend that the reason you do not send her to fight anymore is because she is more valuable beside you.

When the wind leaves her alone with only you as her companion
and it wasnot wasnot jealousy that prompted that cruelty- she finally crumbles into you, animated and fully trusting.

Paper covers rock.

And she is defeated.

But so are you.
