Run lola run:

Manni is having money problems, he decides to get involved in the crime scene as a quick way of making money. However he fucks up on the first job and having lost 100,000 german marks he has 20 minutes to get the money back. Not knowing what to do he rings Lola (his girlfriend) and the film kicks off.

The film is shot at a frenetic pace and uses a huge range of camera tricks (slow motion, fast motion, panning, tracking shots etc.). This with the techno soundtrack gives the film an unstoppable pace and stamps cool all over the film.

Lola has multiple attempts at getting the 100,000 marks in 20 minutes, taking slightly different actions each time. These small actions have profound effects on her and Manni. Also whenever Lola does something that effects someone else we get to see the effect on their life in a series of Polaroid photos flashing into the future. These provide a brief respite from the constant movement and fast camerawork that is the bulk of the film.

There are a few calmer moments. Lola is occasionally forced to slow down, like when she tries to rob a bank. In one scene where Manni dies (that isn't spoiler by the way!) she has a flash back to them intimately talking about their lives.

The film explores many subjects - the effect actions have on one another and the motivation of love in particular - in an extremely stylish and slick way while still making us attached to the characters.

A real cult film, not to be missed - 9/10
