Visiting Teaching Administrative Tips

Be enthusiastic: If leaders are enthusiastic and have a testimony of visiting teaching, this feeling will spread throughout the RS.

Talk about VT often: Keep the topic of VT in front of the sisters.  Compliment them for their efforts.

Maintain a good working relationship with your ward clerk: Keep the ward clerk up-to-date with changes in your enrollment.  Compare the enrolled sisters list from the ward clerk with the list you have.  Be persistent to make sure there are no discrepancies.  Make sure VT’s understand they need to get new addresses from sisters planning to move.  In many cases if the VT’s don’t get this information, no one else will either, and it won’t be possible for membership records to be forwarded to the new ward.

Pay close attention to changes in the membership of the ward: Your ward clerk should be giving you these changes each month.  Update your enrollment records to reflect these changes and make a visit with one of your board and assign a VT as soon as possible.

Maintain a close working relationship with priesthood leaders: Share VT and HT lists with each other and share information about sisters that would be helpful.  Observe confidentiality.

Post VT assignments on the bulletin board.

Know your sisters: Be diligent in holding your VT interviews so you’ll understand the situations of your sisters and your VT’s.

Be slow to make changes: If changes are necessary, talk to the sisters involved before making changes.

Keep lines of communication open: Help sisters feel comfortable talking to you so they will let you know their situation if something you are asking of them will not work.

Above all, seek the guidance of the Holy Ghost as you consider their needs.

Visiting Teaching is the Lord’s way of providing watch-care for our sisters!
