Getting to know you games

1. We are going to have the sisters take a handful of M&M's as they walk in the door and not tell them what they are for.
Then, after we have our Lesson, and Visiting Teaching message, we are going to have the sisters tell something about
themselves for each M&M they took.

2. Then, after that we have a questionnaire and we are going to ask the sisters to have others sign it.

For instance, the questions are like “Find someone who graduated from BYU.”  That way, the sisters have to go around and
talk to people and find someone who graduated from BYU.  When they find someone, they have that person sign their
sheet.  WE have ten questions and they should all be signed.  This will just get the sisters talking to each other and learning
little tidbits about each other.  We figure, that between the M&M's and the questionnaire, that will take up at least 1 hour to
1 1/2 hours.  So we shall see.

3. How about playing "What's My Bag"? Each girl brings a bag with three different things inside that give insight to her
personality and lifestyle. The items might reflect anything from where she was born to what her hobbies or musical tastes
are. Then you let each girl talk about the items she brought and why she selected those particular things. You'll be surprised
how even the bag itself will help you get to know her better!

4. You pair up the girls with someone they normally wouldn't hang out with. Then, you give them each several pieces of paper
and a marker. First, you ask them to answer some questions about themselves and write the answers really big (one answer
on each paper). Keep them in order. Then, you ask their partner to guess what the other one put as their answer (kinda like
in the newlywed game). Some of the questions we asked were:  1. What's your favorite color?  2. Who's your favorite
scripture hero?  3. What's your favorite food?  4. What's your favorite subject in school?  5. Who's your favorite
    singer/band?  6. What's your favorite dessert?

5. Another thing we did (to get them laughing, too) was a water balloon toss and an egg toss. (We boiled the eggs ahead of
time, but they didn t know this D. The object is to see which team can toss the item the farthest without it dropping. We
were laughing so hard during this!

6. Another thing you can do is pass around a bag of M&M's or Skittles and tell each girl to grab at least 5 or 6 of them. They
can take as many as they want, though. Then, after they all have their candies, you put up a sign with a question
corresponding to each candy color. Each girl has to take turns answering one of the questions from the list according to
what color candy they have.  For example, your chart would say:  Red=Tell us about an embarrassing moment.
Green=What's your favorite holiday and why?  Yellow--What's your dream vacation?  Orange=Tell us about someone you
admire. etc., etc.  You can use any questions you want. The idea is to get the girls to talk about themselves! The more
candies they have, the more they have to talk! You can use fewer candies depending on how many girls you have, or you
can break up into groups to do this.

7. Another idea: have you ever played Fruit Basket or something like it? You have everyone sit in a circle of chairs. One person
is "it" and has a rolled up newspaper or a pompom or something soft to swat with. Before you start, everyone decides on a
fruit (or whatever category you decide to pick I’ve done states, colors, fruits, veggies, sports, etc.) they want to be.  No
two can be the same. Then whoever is "it" yells out a fruit (or whatever) and that person has to stand up and call out another
one before the "it" person swats them SOFTLY on the head.  It can be hilarious sometimes, especially when you use easy
things like apple, banana, orange, etc.

8. We asked each sister to bring a small display of items that she felt represented something about herself... this could be
something she had made, an award she had won, something that represented a talent etc.  They also brought a picture of
themselves as a baby or small girl.  The displays were set up around the room and time was given for everyone to look at
the displays and try to guess who they were about.  Then one by one each sister got to tell about their display.  A prize was
given at the end for the Sister who knewor guessed-- the most correct.

9. I would use the Noah's ark theme and for homemaking as each person arrives, give them a name tag with an animal on it
and then have them find their "mate".  Noah was asked to take two of each animal, so pair each sister up and then have
them get to know each other throughout the night and then toward the end, have everyone get up and give a short
introduction of the person they were paired with and what they learned about them.  That would get the ball rolling to get
    them to know each other.
