Last year for fall homemaking I went around my neighborhood and to friend's houses.   I got pinecones, interesting leaves, little red berries, tiny yellow wildflowers, etc.  and put them into 1 quart mason jars. I put the lid on and tied a bow around the jar with fall colored ribbon.  Then I collected different colored fall leaves.   I spread the fall leaves around the center of the table, put the mason jar in the center with small pumpkins.  It was very inexpensive and looked great!  You could do it without the pumpkins and would only need to spend money on the ribbon.

You could use baskets... most people have small baskets around the house... they could be filled or empty....

apples in the baskets would be country... it is in vogue to use "sticks" for everything now...just sticks from the trees in the woods with rafia around bundles of them.... and red bows.... you could make an apple tree out of brown paper bags for the trunk and branches... green leaves and apples all over it... just print out apples onto red paper and cut them out.... maybe with each sisters name on them....

this is especially stunning in the middle of the room with the "top" of the tree on the ceiling and the apples hanging down.. just scrunch the paper bags or some other brown paper and staple it onto some cardboard that is made into a graduated shape, bigger at thebottom... or you could make the tree on the wall... that's what I did once... it was so cool... I just loved it...

our primary pres. made a tree and put shamrocks all over it for an activity.. and it was great.

you could use old pitchforks, shovels, and other farm implements to decorate around... you could take pictures with outfits like that somber "older" couple you see sometimes, he is holding a pitchfork and they are posing to get their picture taken with somber faces...

you could use pint jars to drink from wal-mart was clearancing their pint jar mugs for .25 the other day when I was in there... they had cute little watermelons on them....

you could paint pint or quart jars a solid color and add a saying on the front and rafia around the top and maybe a ribbon for a favor....

you could make scarecrows out of old clothes... I saw that on this list I think... pumpkins sitting around, etc.

I love country, can you tell?

I made 130 red checked napkins on my serger for an activity one time... it was EASY and made the plain white table coverings look festive....

Lots of people are into country and may have things around the house to decorate the tables with..... personally a bushel of apples would go a long way and you could "sell" them afterwards....

let me know of all the great ideas you get... sounds like fun to me!
