Subject: RS: HFPE Idea

I thought I'd share the idea we did for Enrichment meeting last night.  Our theme was "Saints Around the World ...United Soul, Heart and Hand".  We sent out invitations with people holding hands around the border (Hallmark).  We decorated the Cultural Hall with international cardstock people (from the teaching store) and had them lined up across the front of the with hearts in between each one.  We had a banner with our theme across the front of the Cultural Hall, like we always do. This was a dinner, so the tables were decorated with white round tablecloths and inflatable globes (from OTC) for centerpieces.  I also bought "placemats" from the teaching store, they were really a paper world map but looked exactly like paper placemats.  We also decorated all the walls with pictures of the temples from all over the world.  I went to WalMart and found "world" fabric for $5.00 a panel.  We hung one across the front as the focal point and placed one on in the center of the buffet table.

We had them sign up for a door prize and a jar of M&M's for the sister who guessed the closest to the right amount. It was funny because the guesses ranged from 100- 900!  There were actually 427!

We played a "gathering game", which we called "Temples to Dot the World".  I had found a list of all 122 temples listed on one page and a basic world map which we had at each place setting..  They were to try to put  "dot" where the temple was located. Later, we gave them a map with the answers.

The lesson was entitled, "We, Being Many, Are One." We are blessed to have a wonderful HFPE teacher so the lesson is always "enriching". She started out with the last 8 minutes of the video, "An Ensign to the Nations". (EXCELLENT church video!) The spirit can be felt so strong when watching this video.  She talked about our "oneness" such as we all have the same prophet, the same gospel, the same scriptures etc.  Strength in adversity and so on.

Next, we had 2 sisters from Hong Kong tell of their conversion and testimony. Powerful.

Then, we showed a 5 minute video a woman in our ward had made when she was teaching birthing skills to the women in  Mozambique, Arica.  It was set to beautiful music and it was touching to see the conditions of our dear brothers and sisters who live there. Then we sang a song I had adapted from a poem called "Because We Are All Sisters". I had changed the words around to fit the tune "Because I Have Been Given Much" which we sang. We then did a wonderful service project we called "Because We Are All Sisters" after the poem/song.  We had previously had the sisters sign up to bring items needed for "birthing kits".  They brought their items to HFPE where we had a goal to assemble 200 kits.  We completed 209!  The sisters loved it!

The menu was GREEK Salad, FRENCH Onion Soup, ITALIAN Manicotti, KOREAN Fire Meat, and Apple pie with vanilla icecream and American Flags in the top.  Yum!

Warmly, Linda Greer in Gilbert, AZ
