Subj: RS: Re: friendship & family ties topic

  • For HFPE lesson, "friendship and family ties", we will be doing a "friendship quilt" for our Branch President.  Each sister gets a square of muslin to decorate/design and sign which will later be pieced together, then quilted.  If time permits, could do it all in one event.

  •
  • Also, we'll be having someone speak on journals--how and what to write (a journal jar would be good to include here).

  •
  • "Preserving Your Family's Photos" as in scrapbooking, acid-free photo albums, storage tips.

  •
  • What about a speaker on friendshipping as a tool for missionary work?

  •
  • Perhaps you could do something on "family traditions", reunions, and how to start a family organization--for temple excursions and family history research and to strengthen family love.

  •
  • I can picture a "parenting class" as a way to strengthen family ties.

  •
  • What about "communicating with teenagers and other family members" class?
  • Home and yard beautification (to make our neighborhoods more pleasing) would fit in with the idea of friendshipping our neighbors...we'd have plants to share, neigborhood would be more pleasing to sight, uplifting to the spirits, safer.

  •
  • Have a "four generations and beyond" class on family history research.

  •
  • Teach a class on using the computer to access research tools (available at many public libraries, but many of the sisters don't know how to use the computer).

  •

We have had successful miniclasses in the past on "Family Reunion Ideas" and "Long-distance Grandparenting".  Both of these topics would fit this theme I think.

Something I would enjoy doing is making cards and making some kind of an expanding file organizer for the cards to keep them ready to send at the needed time -- I am not sure exactly how to do that.  CArds with stamping or scrapbook punchouts etc or dried flowers All of these paper type activities are very popular now.  This would fit under both friendship and family and cards bought at the store are S-O-O-O  expensive
