Fabric Pumpkin Instructions

What about cloth pumpkins?  We made them last year and they were fun and easy!  We did sets of three (Large, medium and small pumpkin).  You take a square of fabric (I used a patterned fabric with fall motif), put some fiberfill in the middle (amount depends on the size you want your pumpkin) and wrap it up, gathering all the loose ends at the top.  You put a cut twig or small tree branch that has been cut into a 3-4 inch piece at the top with a little sticking in the fiberfill and a little showing outside and wrap embroidery floss around the top to hold it together.  Then, use  A LOT of hot glue!

Next take the embroidery floss (you don't even have to cut it from the first time you've used it) and wrap it around the pumpkin tightly to create the dimpling effect.  You start at the top and wrap it around the bottom and back to the other side at the top, then wrap around the stick once to "harness it" and then wrap again until you have the desired number of "sections".

Then take a strip of green fabric (i used a subtle print) and cut it into strips of about 1" wide, but leave a little fabric at the top of the strip connected to all the other pieces (does this make sense?)  This is then wrapped around the top of the pumpking to look like leaves and it hides where you've hot glued the pumpkin and stick closed shut.

Then take jute that has been curled (I wet mine and wrapped it around a bbq skewer and put it in the oven on low for about an hour till dry - then it holds the shape) and glue some of that on the stem where the pumpkin and greenery meet the stick.

Some of the ladies swapped their fabric so they had one size of one pattern, another size in a different pattern, etc.  I kept mine all the same pattern because I liked my fabric so much!

Hope this helps!
