Here is a clever story that fits in the section on exercising priesthood power.

THE 911 BAPTISM

related to a Stake Conference congregation by Pres Julian D Raulston of the Provo Utah South Stake, after being told of the incident by the Utah South Mission President at a leadership meeting.

Two missionaries in the area (names withheld) had a baptism commitment from one of their investigators, and scheduled a date to do the baptism.  On the appointed day, they arrived at the church building, only to find it locked.

They waited.  Nobody arrived.  They waited some more.  They tried various means to enter, unsuccessfully.  Finally a frustrated senior companion directs his junior--still fairly green, I think--to go call someone.

"Who should I call?"

"I don't care, anyone!" So he goes to a pay phone and dials 911.

Upon being asked the nature of the emergency,  the Elder responds with his name, and that he is a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of  Latter-day Saints with a candidate in need of baptism, but unable to receive it due to a locked building.  The dispatch officer asks him his location.  He doesn't know.  Can he describe his  surroundings? Yes, and he does so.  He is then instructed to return to the church building and await further developments.

Upon returning his companion asks him who he called, is surprised by the answer, and wants to know what they said.

"They said to wait."

Shortly after a fire truck comes roaring up with sirens and lights in full blare.  Now, firemen know how to get into locked buildings.  And in short order the missionaries are admitted to the church.  They find that the font was never filled.  This is a task that normally takes hours to accomplish.  So the firemen pull out the hoses and fire up the pump on their truck.

Fifteen minutes later that font is full.  Then the candidate dresses in his whites, a prayer is offered, a hymn is sung and with the firemen acting as witnesses, he is baptized and confirmed.  The unlikely meeting is then closed properly, the font drained, the building locked up again, and everybody goes home happy.
