Re: RS: Compassionate Service: Any mention/new manual?
Question:
Hello sisters --
With all the talk of the new manual I was wondering if there is any treatment of compassionate service within its pages. Does anyone have a copy of it that could perhaps take a look for me and let me know what it says?
Thanks, Jeanne from Michigan

I sent this out earlier today thinking I posted it to the whole list. Since I went to the effort of typing it all out for the sister who wanted the information I thought I might as well post this answer as well as an answer I gave in another e-mail about visiting teaching coordinators and conferences. (I will send that one separately.) Hope this all makes sense.

I'm sorry I don't have time to type all seven paragraphs about the compassionate service leader but here is a brief summary:
"The compassionate service leader is called by the bishopric and supervised by the Relief Society president. With the help of the president and, where appropriate, visiting teachers, she has the following responsibilities:" (I will type the first sentence of each paragraph.)
-"She identifies skills and circumstances of sisters who could offer compassionate service."
-"She identifies sisters who have special needs. She then coordinates the efforts of the Relief Society to help theses sisters through compassionate service." (Several examples are given after this.)
-"She may coordinate the efforts of sisters to friendship and support women who are not members of the Church."
-"She may arrange for endowed sisters to accompany sisters who will be alone when receiving the temple endowment."
-"She keeps a record of non-confidential compassionate service assignments for the president. This record should include the names of people served, dates, types of service given, and time spent."
-"She attends ward Relief Society leadership meetings."
Hope this helps. Again, I'm sorry to not type it all but I'm hoping this will give you a feel for it anyway.
