Aes Sedai of the Yellow Ajah
Full Name - Roisene Ailil Meriodred Aes Sedai
Position - Aes Sedai of the Yellow Ajah, Sitter in the Hall for the Yellow
Character Summary:
Haughty and imperious, Roisene Meriodred recently emerged from brutal infighting among the Yellow to claim a seat in the Hall, making more than a few enemies in the process. Born of minor Cairheinin nobilty, little more than landed gentry, Roisene affects the airs of a queen. She is an accomplished Healer nonetheless, one the most respected in the Tower. Arriving at the Tower a wilder, Roisene has a soft spot in heart for other such as herself. She is believed to have been associated with an outlawed association of channeling women, but unlike Tianan Tanches, her connection has never been proven. Roisene is actively hostile rival to Tullia Nembrey. Roisene has one gaidin, the nobly born Willem Bedevere, former captain in the Queen's Guards of Andor.
Affiliation - Yellow Ajah, White Tower
Extended Background:
Born to House Meriodred, a house of lesser nobility in Cairhien, over a half century ago, Roisene Meriodred was raised to expect more from life, and more importantly, to demand it. Not wealthy or influential, the Meriodreds were lords by courtesy, having the ownership of planted fields, but no armed retainers to speak of. As the eldest daughter of the eldest son and heir of old Lord Keirengail, Roisene was afforded a better education and given a finer wardrobe than her siblings and cousins, but still not the luxury that Roisene sought.
In time, she grew resentful of her family's rustic life among the countryfolk, and when she was fifteen, she bullied her effete mother and ineffectual father into bankrolling her entre into society in Cairhien, and then sending her and her governess and maid on the tour of Great Cities. Her parents did so, forced to sell off lands to finance her escapade. After her presentation at the Sun Palace in Cairhien, she, her governess, and her maid, traveled to Caemlyn, to Tear and lastly to Illian. Foolishly overspending the whole time, they arrived in Illian perilously close to penury. There in Illian, her governess, Diorelle, took sick of some marsh fever, and Astred, the maid, ran off, and stealing some of her clothes and the last of Roisene's coin. Roisene fell in with the innkeeper, Juliya Spiros, taking service in the inn to pay her board until she could contact her family, bitter and resentful the whole time.
Through circumstances Sealed to the Flame, Roisene was brought to Tar Valon approximately two years later until the disapproving eye of Dianys Mathenos, the influential Blue sister, having a wilder's ability that was seemingly trained outside of the White Tower. Enrolled as a novice, Roisene quickly earned the dislike of her fellow students for haughty and demanding manner. As she studied, she demonstrated that she had an amazing Talent for Healing, and upon her elevation to Accepted, focused on Healing and all its intricacies, seeking mastery of the subject, to better stand out among the Accepted.
When she was raised to the shawl, she chose Yellow, harboring intents of rising high among them by virtue of her proficiency as a Healer and her respectable strength. This coupled with her unbridled ambition propelled her through her career, even as she acquired enemies during her rise, chief among them Tullia Nembrey, a sister Yellow. During the Aiel War, she encountered the man who would become her warder, Willem Bedevere, who was a noble-born captain of the Queen's Guards of Andor.
Recently installed as a Sitter for the Yellow in the Hall of the Tower, Roisene's thirst for power has only grown, it is an open secret that she seeks a high office, the Seat itself, when the time comes. However, a bloc of sisters among her own Ajah is determined to see that day never comes.
Although generally dismissive of the students in the Tower, Roisene has cast a proprietary eye on two novices, despite each having benefactresses already. The two are Baedille Daraghain of Cairhien and Helyn dene Artemedes of Illian, both derived of royal blood in their homelands. Additionally, Roisene has cultivated an Domani Accepted, Sileane Teffar, as a protégé for reasons less obvious.
Character Description:
A pale dark-eyed Cairhienin, Roisene Meriodred is unusually tall for her countrywomen, with refined features, although with a nose too long for beauty and a jaw too strong for elegance, all in a dignified Aes Sedai's face of ageless complexion. Roisene's hair is a glossy sable, a mass of curls confined by a delicate net of golden filaments, adorned with glistening bits of topaz. Roisene wears a formal Cairhieinin-style gown of darkest bronze satin, although with panels of lighter, mustard colored satin on the bodice and down the front of the skirt, all heavily worked in golden embroidery making out a labyrinthine pattern evoking leaves and thorns. The gown features a long train, and Roisene wears a flowing manteau of saffron velvet over the gown, habiliment regal enough for a queen. Roisene wears a large square-cut topaz on her breast, hanging from a silken ribbon, and several bracelets studded with yellow opals on each wrist. Lastly, her Great Serpent ring is worn on her right hand, amid several golden bands. Soft slippers cover her feet, sewn with more golden thread, matching to the dress.
Gaidin:
Students and Associates:
- Sileane Taffar:
A sleek and sensuous Domani girl, Sileane Taffar wears her freshly laundered Accepted's dress, with its seven bands of color at hem and cuff, as a courtesan would wear a peignoir, and somehow exudes allure and enticement, even when standing mute and still, a mysterious ability that the Mistress of Novices has unsuccessfully tried to suppress. Sileane's tussled hair always looks somehow like she has just roused from bed, for all that she affects a demure persona in the presence of Aes Sedai. She wears a small jewel, a sapphire of dazzling blue on a silver chain around her neck, a gift from some unknown benefactor, and she wears the scent of Night Lotus.
- Oranne din Matar Silver Gull: Yellow Sister of the Sea Folk.
Stocky and well toned, Oranne din Matar Silver Gull is clearly born of the Aithan a'Miere, with coal-dark skin and shining black hair, falling below her waist. Oranne walks with a curious, rolling gait, revealing her maritime origins. Oranne wears loose garments of bright canary colored silk, heavily brocaded; a blouse that hangs from her shoulders, and is open-seamed on the sleeves, fastened ever-so-far by a small glitteing bit of golden crystal, creating soft gaps that reveal dark flesh down her arms, and flowing trousers of the same, open at the ankles. Oranne wears numerous gold chains and necklaces around her neck, and a slim chain attached to her ear and running to the side of her nose displays tiny medallions, bright against her brown skin. Oranne wears her formal shawl, with its long yellow fringe the color of a bright summer marigold, looped over her shoulders.
-
Shella Mathis: Yellow Sister from Andor.
A tall, slim woman with what-colored hair, cut short and neatly at her chin, Shella Mathis's pleasing features and warm brown eyes belie her true nature as a determined and implacable operative of the White Tower, as she seems more like a good-natured farmwife than renowned Aes Sedai. Attired in a splendid riding dress of gleaming golden satin, cut in the Andoran style with a high neck, and long sleeves, Shella looks as she is ready to travel at a moments notice. A thick cape of dark yellow velvet, worked in golden thread making out laurel branches and lined with black sables, is worn over dress, pinned by a large broach. The broach, wrought in beaten gold, is fashioned into the shape of a leopard, with bits of onyx inlaid, and was a gift from some long dead prince of Altara, or so is said. Shella wears glossy black riding boots, and steel-backed riding gauntlets are tucked behind her belt. A heavy-bladed knife is worn proudly on her hip.
- Reyna Maristova: Grey Sister of Arafel, easy to overlook and quickly dismissed.
Seemingly sad-eyed and doleful, Reyna Maristova is an Arafellin woman with long black hair and pale skin. Unobtrusively dressed in a crisply pressed dress cut from slate-colored silk, Reyna is somewhat easy to overlook, for she is plain in feature and unexceptional in height. A dark cloak of wool is worn over the dress, further subduing her appearance. Her only affectation, in fact, is the set of dainty silver bells worn in her hair, each hanging from delicate silver chains. Even her Great Serpent ring is unnoticed on her hand beneath the trim of smoky Jeraecruz lace on her cuffs.
- Narindrin Arinaad: Yellow Sister of Tarabon
A matronly, some might say doughy, woman, Narindrin Arinaad wears her dark blonde hair in an array of narrow braids, each falling lower than her shoulders, the ends laden with beads of carved ivory and sardonyx. Her eyes, a bright honey-brown, blaze with intelligence. Narindrin wears a simply cut dress of soft, cream colored wool in an understated style, with a wide collar of Solinde lace, and fastidious embroidery in dark brown and red making out a whirling, scrolling border on the skirts and down the sleeves. A large, heavy necklace made up of several strands of golden pearls, spaced with large beads of yellow agate, all twisted as one, is her main piece of jewelry other than her Great Serpent ring.
