Sometimes I feel the color blue like
The blue jay

I yearn to just fly away
On the wings of my imagination
Gliding in the wind
Not paying a mind to which direction
I might be going
Just going with the flow
Feeling the cool wind slapping my face.
Sending a cold shiver down my spine.

Oh if I could be a bully like
The blue jay
And speak my mind and say what I want to say.
But I'm much more like the sparrow.
And my color is more yellow
Like a tiny finch

Afraid of my own shadow it seems.
Hiding away within my dreams
Imagining I am outside looking in.
When all along I'm inside looking out.
A tiny sparrow peeking from its nest
Glad that winter has been put to rest.

Another test along life's endless skyway
Looking for a place to hide away
Within my straw emptiness
Safe from other birds of prey
I isolate here and I've forgotten how to play.

I chirp a message to you
Carrying a tune across the miles
Hoping to reach you with the the melody of my soul
To open you up and swallow you whole

I need for you to search for me
Around the house and up in the old maple tree

There in the crevice of two branches,
Where two once built a nest!
