Percival's Photo Of The Week

Rod Phillips and Percival
Percival and R.W. "Rod" Phillips at BB 's Barbecue, last September in Kansas City. Percival: "I will miss this man a bunch, as he had an impact on my life that will never be duplicated. He never stopped learning and was always quick to point out something new that he had learned that might help one of his friends. R.W. was truly a 'one of a kind' individual that will be greatly missed by those that knew him. As R.W. would often quote, 'It is better to keep your mouth closed and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt,' something R.W. certainly practiced in his own life."

Corunna 6/24

I would like to start this week’s column with a very sad note, as I have lost another in my wrestling family of friends. Rod Phillips passed away on July 2 following a massive stroke at his home on June 23. Rod was in charge of security at the Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Kansas. I had spent some time with him just last year on a trip to Kansas City to see Lord Littlebrook and other friends. Rod and I spent many evenings on the phone talking, sometimes for an hour at a time. He will always be remembered for being there for me when I needed him at ringside. Rest in Peace, my friend.--Percival

I am not very sure of what transpired after receiving yet another Hall of Fame award at the card in Corunna, Michigan on June 24. I say that because of what happened to me at the hands of Bull Wheeler from Bay City, Michigan.

I have asked my friend Mark Bujan to relate the rest of the story to you, as I am having some problems typing. Thank you, Mark, for stepping up to the plate for me this week.

Here are his words from the Wrestling Beat Update…

This card from top to bottom was filled with great wrestling. Fans wanted more action as some refused to leave the Arena after the final bout. This card also featured many surprises and a couple of LWA debuts, as well as the formation of the LWA Hall of Fame. That Hall of Fame, from time to time during the year, will induct more great Wrestlers, Managers, Promoters, and Writers.

So, let's take a look at what went down in Corunna, Michigan Saturday night, June 24, 2006.

* Fans got to see the LWA debut of a couple new wrestlers. A new big man hit Corunna; he is Marshall Law, the nephew of former wrestling superstar "Big Boss Man." Marshall Law is a big man, standing a good 6’6” and hits the scales at just under 500 Pounds.

He is in the LWA to impose law and order if needed. Steve Rau & Mark Bujan traveled to Dodge City, Kansas two times to sign this big masked man, Marshall Law. It was rumored that Percival A. Friend was taking some special interest in this huge man from Ford County, Kansas.

* Also making his LWA debut was Tommy Titus. After weeks of working out contract details, he has inked a deal with LWA. Tommy Titus is one of the most underrated wrestlers around. His match with LWA Champion Rastakhan was just about five out of five stars; you will be seeing a lot of great stuff from Tommy Titus in the future.

**** PERCIVAL A. FRIEND INDUCTED INTO ****
LWA HALL OF FAME!!!
THEN ATTACKED BY BULL WHEELER AND OTHERS

That was the headline in the local paper Sunday as Percival A. Friend was the first person to be elected into the LWA Hall Of Fame. After Steve Rau handed Percival his hand crafted award, Percival took the mike and spoke to the fans, who were happy to be part of this moment. He spoke of his love of Michigan wrestling and coming home. He thanked everyone in the room besides the Board of Directors, who had given him the beautiful award. It meant so much to be honored just 20 miles away from where he grew up and started in the wrestling profession.

Bull Wheeler came out, along with Frank Stein, Trouble Maker J.T. Zorin and a couple other henchmen to confront Percival and spoil his moment. Then Bull Wheeler, with the shocked fans looking on, knocked out and sent Percival flying to the opposite side of the ring, hitting the lower ring rope. Then, like a pack of wild dogs, they began to kick and stomp the defenseless Percival, who was laid out on the mat.

One of the henchmen, Frank "So Fine" Stein, then smashed his Hall of Fame Award into a million pieces against the ring steps. A number of wrestlers and fans rushed to the ring to help Percival back to the dressing room area, where he was examined by E.M.T. that were on staff at the matches.

Percival was rushed to Memorial Hospital, where he spent the night for observation. He suffered a severe separated shoulder and a mild concussion.

In an interview I did with Percival, he says he will need major rehab. He will be out for maybe a month or two and vows to return to confront Bull Wheeler. Maybe we will see the return of the famous attaché` case that made him a household word in the 70's while managing Black Angus. I pity poor Bull and the others.

* SABBATH SETS LWA RECORD

Sabbath, hometown hero, made fast work defeating Degenerate in only 27 seconds.

* Rookie Jeff Brooks continues to show his stuff, holding his own, taking on the Monster Bull Wheeler.

* Josh Movado is looking good as a singles wrestler, winning the fans over in the LWA.

* J.T. Zorin continues to create havoc every time he has a match. His opponents have to have eyes in the back of their heads as Zorin comes out with a small Army. Zorin is one of the top contenders in line for a title bout with Rastakhan.

* It's a bird, it's a plane, no, it's UNR8TED!!! If you have not seen this high flyer, you’re missing something. Fans are falling over dizzy trying keep up with this popular star.
